Teach Your Teacher Day!

The children in Primary 5 have swapped roles with Miss Gillespie today and yesterday as she became a student and they became the teacher! All the children worked in groups to plan a 45 minute lesson. Each group worked well in their teams to think of a topic, write a lesson plan and organise all of their resources. We learnt about different art techniques, cars, South Africa, the Euros and different sports. Miss Gillespie was very impressed with all the aspiring teachers and enjoyed being a pupil for the morning!

Terrific Technologies

A big well done to all of P2, P2/3 and P3 who all worked very hard to create their own hand puppets. As part of Technology lessons they learned to plan and design their products, then to follow their design to create their finished product. The pictures show a great selection of the Easter themed puppets from P2 and also the rainforest themed puppets from P2/3 and P3.  Great work boys and girls.

QUAKING TIME IN P7

Today in p7 we had a parent’s open day. Our task was to build an earthquake proof building using marshmallows, straws and toothpicks. In addition the criteria stated that our buildings should be at least 25cm tall and have two stories. Once we had finished our buildings we tested them out by putting them on a tray of jelly and shaking the tray. If the building did not collapse then we would have a second test by putting a weight on it if it didn’t collapse with a weight on it we would put another weight on! During our task we had a false earthquake alarm and we all got under the tables and pulled our chair in, all the parents began to laugh (which you really shouldn’t do if there is a real earthquake.)  We had a good result, none of buildings fell down!!!!   2b68a5f0-8986-42d5-8937-3dcd13f4a4297d282409-2cc6-406b-90b0-ac846e4e54762d05bc19-0941-4596-b5cf-c4953d849594 68bdbe67-9132-4f99-84fd-60854ddd5d9b 346c040f-aac8-4ec7-86ce-c9507e1fc488 c23dc34a-026e-4719-9784-dcb34fc8ee14 fe311234-a81b-4943-81a2-36b0db2eed60

Primary 4 – Wonderful Weather

We have been working extremely hard today on researching various types of extreme weather in the world.  We worked in our co-op learning groups to research storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis and lightning.  Did you know that tornadoes can reach up to speeds of 483 kilometres per hour?  Did you also know that thunder and lightning happen at the same time, but because light travels faster than sound, we see lightning before we hear the thunder?

P5 Learn to Blog

Primary 5 have started taking ownership over their own class blog posts this week. They have been learning about what a blog is and what information to include in a blog post. We also discussed the different topics we could blog about and looked at including our own opinions. We have set up a Glenmanor Blog display in the class where we write our own blog posts and share our learning. We have been encouraging eachother by commenting on the blog posts on our display.

P2 Marvellous Maths

Primary 2 have been busy during maths time this week.

Some children used an interactive SmartBoard Sweet Shop game to add coins to make a total.

Others used play coins and a price list in the class shop. Some children practised their mental addition skills by completing a “Five minute Frenzy” grid while others played maths apps on the i-pads. You have been very focused on your learning, well done P2!

P2 Explore Senses through Purposeful Play

The boys and girls in Primary 2 enjoyed taking part in Purposeful Play this afternoon to explore their topic of senses.

The children used a range of materials to create artwork of their own iris.

They used the I-pads and Smartboard to investigate the sense organs. Why not try out a website called, “Sid the Science Kid.”

They used play-dough at the malleable area to create models of their own sense organs!

Well done Primary 2!

Kilbowie Day 3

I have overcome my fear of water. I loved the skiing (Hayley).

I am the same as Hayley and have overcome my fear of water. I enjoyed my dinner tonight (Brandon).

The skiing has been my best activity so far (Beth).

I got to go to Kerrera for the full day. We canoed over, climbed the mountain, built a fire and toasted marshmallows and enjoyed a hot chocolate. I am looking forward to gorge walking tomorrow (Ross).

I have loved the canoeing and I am enjoying playing ping pong (Arun).

The best part for me has been the rock climbing. I climbed all the way to the top (Kaitlyn).

My day on Kerrera was good. The hot chocolate and marshmallows were amazing. We walked round the full island (Aaron D).

After canoeing to the small island we jumped off the rocks. Mrs Allan fell in the water (Lewis S).

I have had a good week so far and looking forward to gorge walking tomorrow (Kyle).

I liked the kayaking and loved jumping off the cliff into the ocean (Jack G).

The children have been brilliant so far. Each and everyone of them are challenging themselves. We are very proud of them all (Mrs Martin, Miss Hendry

P2 and the age of Internet Safety

Primary 2 are finishing off their research topic about the years 2000-2015. We learned that the internet has changed alot over the past 15 years and we need to be clued up on our Internet Safety knowledge!

The boys and girls watched a great cartoon to explain Internet Safety on the smartboard, learned some top tips for surfing the web safely, and created their own advice videos on the i-pads for other children to watch and use.
