Practising our Tables

There are so many activities to choose from to help us learn our tables.
There are so many activities to choose from
to help us learn our tables.

Primary 4 had great fun using a variety of different websites to help them learn their table facts. Using interactive games helped them to consolidate, and extend, their knowledge about table facts. They had to provide answers to given questions in a limited amount of time. This gave them a double challenge, accuracy and speed, which they loved.

Congratulations Primary  4.

Evacuee Letters

Primary 5 enjoyed writing letters as though they were an evacuee during World War II. The children used their learning from our Rememberance Day mini topic to write their letters. We tea stained some paper to make it look older and wrote our letters including information about; the journey to rural areas, what happened once we had arrived, what our billet families were like and jobs we did to help our families. Here are some sentences from the children’s work. Well done, all your letters are fantastic!

Cameron wrote- ‘When we arrived at the town hall we all got lined up. I was the last one to be picked.’

Chloe wrote- ‘The train journey was awful and I felt sick. My head was aching. I tried to get to the toilet but I couldn’t because the train was so crowded.’

Callum wrote- ‘I was so sad to go away from you and dad but it is so fun seeing a lot of strange things and funny animals. There is also a lot of land and grass.’

Taylor wrote- ‘The chickens escaped and I had to chase them. After that, we picked berries to make a pie that was yummy.’

P2 Explore Senses through Purposeful Play

The boys and girls in Primary 2 enjoyed taking part in Purposeful Play this afternoon to explore their topic of senses.

The children used a range of materials to create artwork of their own iris.

They used the I-pads and Smartboard to investigate the sense organs. Why not try out a website called, “Sid the Science Kid.”

They used play-dough at the malleable area to create models of their own sense organs!

Well done Primary 2!

P2 and Remembrance Day 2015

Over the past few days, the boys and girls have been learning a bit about Remembrance Day.

“I know the fighting happened in Flanders Field” – David Young

“I learned that we wear a poppy because they grew in the place where a war was” – Stephanie Gibb

“There were bombs and it was Germany we were fighting in the first war” – Andrew Armour

They created a fantastic display to showcase all their hard work.

Primary 2 also created fantastic acrostic poems using the word “REMEMBER” as a stimulus.

The children made personal message poppies to thank the soldiers and servicemen who gave up their lives for their country.

Well done to this pupil for winning the BEAR Scotland competition! She had to name the gritter and came up with the name ‘Mrs McGritter’.

The name will be displayed on one of the new spreaders that will be treating the M80 this winter.

This pupil will receive a special prize very soon  and it may be delivered by the new spreader! How exciting!

It’s Magic with Izak9

1-2-3 Addition Stepping
1-2-3 Addition Stepping

Primary 5 had great fun using our latest resource in Mathematics, Izak9. Our challenge was to use the digits 1-9 to make a Magic Square. In a Magic Square all the rows, columns and diagonals have the same total. We had to work co-operatively to work out the answer in our teams. We were all very proud of our hard work and delighted to be able to produce a solution.

We also tried making Addition Steps. The total of each column had to be the sam even with the different number of steps. We managed to produce several different solutions in our teams.

Why not try some Magic Cubes, or Addition Stepping yourself. You can do them on paper, or use some of the interactive sites available.

P2/3 Internet Safety

P2/3 have been  learning about Internet Safety through a variety of media and activities. Firstly they used the smart board to  listen to a story, which was then followed by a class discussion.  Then they reinforced their learning with art, drama, music and writing activities using the class iPads. They have learned lots of top tips to stay safe while surfing the net.
