Today in in class the children used chalk and pastels to create these wonderful winter tree pictures. The children enjoyed blending the chalk and charcoal with their fingers. Super effort.
As part of our winter topic we have been learning about how to stay warm. We all carried out an experiment to see what materials are best at keeping in heat.
We covered 4 beakers with different jackets ( paper towel, t-shirt material, thick wooly sock, bag of cotton wool balls) and also had a beaker with no jacket. Mrs Inglis added hot water, we took the temperature waited 20 minutes and then took the temperature again. We discovered that all the water had got a bit cooler, but the water with the woolly sock jacket and the cotton wool jacket stayed the warmest.
This is just like our big wooly and puffy coats that we wear in cold weather to keep us warm.
Everybody enjoyed being scientists and filling in our science reports.
During taught writing today, Primary 3 wrote letters to Santa. The class really enjoyed this writing activity and their letters were fantastic! We paid close attention to our core targets and remembered to include capital letters and full stops in all sentences.
As as you can see the children are very proud of their letters. Super effort boys and girls.
P1a have had lots of opportunities to learn to add through play. Today I was delighted to see that the children were able to apply their skills to copy and complete some addition question on their own!
The boys and girls have been working hard during literacy time to complete writing tasks linked to their reading books. Some children created a comic strip of their book, some wrote beginning, middle and ends and others answered questions about the text.
Keep up the great work P2!
P5 have had fun swimming and doing PE at the Tryst.
JA- I really liked when we got to swim on our backs and kick our legs.
Erin L and Macie- We really enjoyed the gym because we were learning handball skills and at the end we will get to play a game of handball.
Erin M and Chloe- It was really fun when we were swimming on our back. We are learning to do back stroke and front crawl.
P5 want to say thank you and that they really appreciate the opportunity to go swimming! We are so lucky!
Here are some of the very proud Star Writers from the last few weeks! The children have written acrostic poems, sense poems and recount texts during taught writing time and are working hard on excellent presentation. Well done everyone!
Juri is the German Classroom Assistant at Chryston High School and we were delighted to welcome him to Glenmanor recently.
He asked us lots of questions and we had great fun replying to him in our best German. We practised our greetings, colours and talking about ourselves. We sang several songs to him and he said hearing us singing Stille Nacht(Silent Night) was very moving.
We also learned a lot about the geography of Germany and its neighbours. We can say all the regions, towns and cities in German. Mrs Charles has now mastered saying the Czech Republic and we are delighted for her!!!.
We are looking forward to Juri’s next visit.
