Parents and Carers Try IZAK 9

Primary 5 would like to say a big thank you to everyone who was able to make the open event on Friday morning. We had a great time sharing our IZAK9 resource with you and showing you how we work together in our teams to solve the problems. We were very impressed at your problem solving skills and your German and French skills! We are glad you can now see how we have fun in maths!

Cool Characters

Primary 5 have been working hard this week to finish reading their novels. In pairs, the children were asked to summarise their novel thinking about what happened in the beginning, the middle and at the end. They then chose a character from the novel to draw on a big poster. Children then wrote their summaries on the back of their super drawings and they are now hanging from our ceiling for everyone to read. Well done for working so hard as a team!

AMAZING 3D ARTWORK AND QUIZED QUESTIONS

Numeracy

P5 have been learning about 3D shapes. We have found some unusual shapes. We made 3D shapes from nets which is how they look when they are folded out.

Literacy

In literacy we made up some questions about our novels for a partner. We swapped with our partner to answer their questions and then we had to mark their answers against our success criteria. Our success criteria was: to write our answers in full sentences, to use information from our book to answer the questions and to write the page number of where we found the information.

COOL COMPASS ART

Today in class we were making compass art. The compass we were using were for drawing circles with different size radius. This is how you use one:

step 1 get the compass.

step 2 sharpen your pencil.

step 3 untwist you compass untill you find a hole

step 4 get the sharp pencil and put the pencil in the hole.

step 5 twist it the other way.

step 6 put the compass on paper and you can draw a circle.

P2 Class Dojo Growth Mindset

P2 are enjoying a new Class Dojo video clip each week to help them to develop a “Growth Mindset.”

This week, the clip is called, “The Power of Yet” and the boys and girls discussed why the word ‘yet’ is so important. Instead of saying, “I can’t do it,” why not say, “I can’t do it, yet.”

Think of a time where you just didn’t get “it.” What could you do in that situation?

P5, 6 and 7 Pupils Pilot Izak 9

P6 were first to find out what’s in the box! A set of 9 cubes with different colours, shapes and numbers on each face of the cube. Animated characters, Abacus and Helix set the pupils some challenging maths tasks on the screen and the pupils are encouraged to plan, do, review and make sense of the tasks as a team.

The teams worked really hard together and enjoyed finding different ways to solve the problems set. The tasks generated a lot of discussion and excitement, especially when completed!

P5 had great fun putting Izak 9 through its paces. Delighted faces when problems were solved!

Some P7 pupils stayed after school to try out the resource. They tried out some more challenging tasks involving fractions and precentages. Well done!

Thank you to Franz for giving up his time today to show us this fantastic resource.
