P5/6 Chill Skills

P5 and P5/6 took part in their first ‘Relax Kids’ workshop today where we focused on the power of positive thinking. We all came away with a positive affirmation about ourselves to think about this week. We can’t wait till next Monday now!

Patrick – “My affirmation was, I am awesome!”

Johnathon – “I am special”

Peyton – “Mine was, I am unique.”

Primary 5/6 with great cooking skills

Primary 5/6 have had a great week making 3 different dishes for each of them to enjoy.   On Monday it was macaroni cheese and some pupils were not too keen to make this as it had lots of cheese!   Tuesday was far more popular as we made pancakes in order to support their learning of Shrove Tuesday.   Needless to say, the option of the toppings made it all that little bit better.

Today, we got to further develop the skills of reading a recipe, cutting, grating, frying, shaping, timing and reducing a sauce.   It was great to see the pupils working together and working through each process.   A great week and we are all looking forward to our next block of cooking.

Well done P5/6!!

Sports Leadership Learning

This afternoon, pupils from Primaries 4, 5, 6 and 7 came to their next block of learning about Sports and the aspects that surround this.

They were learning about First Aid as this is an important aspects to understanding the associated accidents that lead to small and larger injuries.   Today, the pupils had the opportunity to learn how to assess injuries, dress injuries to the body and the face, put the arm into a sling, put someone into the Recovery Position and also CPR.    This required some problem solving but they all worked very well with each other and also with the resources and equipment that was there for them to use.

As you can see from the photographs, I think that they all consider themselves to be confident First Aiders!

P2 and the Learning Dip

CfTcGxiUEAEVLE9Primary 2 have been discussing “The Learning Dip.” This is a point in your learning when you get stuck and think something is too hard. However, the boys and girls of P2 have learned about strategies to get back out of the Learning Dip.

Ben L – “To get out of the dip, you have to try and try again.”

Freya – “To get better, you need to reflect on your work to see how to improve it.”

Below is a link to the Class Dojo discussion videos so you can discuss them more at home!

First Heat of the Great Glen Bake Off

A huge well done to everyone who took part in the first heat of the Great Glen Bake Off. We were extremely impressed with the standard of cooking and the talented bakers we have in school! Well done to all the children in P1-3 who did a super job decorating cakes. Mrs Burke and the Captains tasted all the bakes and had the tough decision of choosing two bakes to put through to the final. Congratulations to Max and Leo who have made it through to the P4-7 final.

P5 Busy Bees

Primary 5 have had a busy time at school learning new things and taking part in different opportunities.

In maths, we have been learning about division. We made the most of the sunshine and practised our sums outside.

We have also been looking at the artist Piet Mondrian. We created some of our own paintings in the style of his work and we listened to swing music whilst we painted, just as Piet Mondrian did!

We really enjoyed cooking our fairtrade breakfast in the learning kitchen. We made blueberry and banana breakfast muffins and they were delicious! We used as many fairtrade products from the Co-Operative as we could.
