Whole School Assembly 11 September 2015

We had a lovely time at assembly today. Great actions from the front of house to accompany fischy songs. Very confident individuals!

We launched the concept of mindset today. The pupils were amazed to know that they can learn anything if they have a certain type of mindset. We looked at what you might think if you had a growth mindset. We also looked at what you might think if you have a fixed mindset. We watched a video of a girl who was frightened to ski down a slope but she still managed to do it and was delighted with her achievement – a great example of a growth mindset. Then we watched a video of a girl who was learning to ride a bike. She went so far then gave up. She got angry and refused to try again even though she could do it – an example of a fixed mindset. The great thing about mindset is that we can change from having a fixed one to a growth one if we all use the same language. See the examples below as a starter and try these in school and at home. I am sure they will make a difference straight away!

Primary 5 Go Back In Time

Primary 5 developed their knowledge of 70’s playground games today. First they worked as a team to make a long rope out of elastic bands. The children then enjoyed the challenge of jumping over the long elastic band rope as it was raised higher and higher from ankle height all the way to ear height! We used our iPads to record each other’s learning.

Here are some of the children in action!

P2 in the Learning Kitchen

As part of our Focus on Food topic, P2 all got a chance to make Bruschetta in our new learning kitchen. We worked in small groups learning how to make the garlicky bread base and how to chop our tomatoes and olives safely.  We used two different herbs to flavour our bread – dried oregano and fresh basil. When we had made the Bruschetta we all got a chance to taste it straight away, some of us ate it all!! It was delicious. Everyone had a great time learning to cook and Mrs Inglis is very proud of us all, especially as we all tried and tasted something new. We can’t wait to cook again next year. Yum yum. (Mrs Inglis)

P3 Parents Open Event Part 2 (Cafe Espanol)

The second part of our parents event took place in the Learning Kitchen where the pupils from P3 and Spanish Club pupils from P4 and 5 were serving tapas (Spanish snacks) to all our visitors.

Spanish cafe food

The cafe was very popular and successful with pupils serving the food in Spanish and helping their parents/guardians with the pronunciation of the phrases left on each table.  The tapas were eaten up very quickly so we haven’t got many pictures of the snacks on offer but we do promise they were delicious – muy delicioso.

Thanks to all my helpers especially Johnathon who took the photos for me as I was busy in the kitchen.  Muchas gracias for such a wonderful turnout!
