The Wonders of Electricity

Primary 5/6 pupils have enjoyed learning about different aspects of electricity.   As they progressed and deepened their knowledge of the impact that electricity has on their lives and how vital this is in today’s modern living, I taught the pupil’s about circuits and the journey that electricity takes to reach the circuit.

At the end of the block of teaching and learning, the class had the challenge of working out how to build a circuit.   Some were to make a bulb light up, whilst others got a fan and a buzzer to work.   Some progressed onto adding circuit breakers and even adding more to their circuit to make the bulb even brighter.   What an achievement and I am so proud that they were highly motivated and each thoroughly enjoyed the time spent carrying this out.

To a Mouse, By Robert Burns

Today, Primary 4 celebrated the life of Robert Burns by learning to recite two verses of his famous poem, “To a Mouse” off by heart.

The children added fabulous expression to their voices and afterwards, completed a Metalinguistics task investigating some old Scottish words such as ‘sleekit.’

Great enthusiasm P4!

Celebrating Robert Burns

The pupils in primary six have been working very hard for the past few  weeks learning all about Robert Burns and the traditions of a Burns’ Supper.   All that hard work was displayed on Thursday night when they held their very own Burns’ Supper for their families, teachers and invited guests.   The pupils delivered a professional event with confidence, humour and excellent behaviour. They all worked very hard preparing for this in school and also at home with the help of their family members.

A great time was had by all!

P5/6 Designing and building in the garden.

Primary 5/6 were in the garden clearing the vegetable beds and when we were finished, the pupils found garden canes.   They came rushing over to me and asked if they could build a Tipi; this was a house that the pupil’s had been learning about during our Native American topic.

It was great to see the enthusiasm and determination, but also to hear them discuss the design and how they were going to build it.   They tried several ways to keep it up and after a few attempts, they managed to  built  the structure with the correct shape and made the space larger so that they could fit one of them inside.   As you can see from their faces, the team effort paid off.   A very proud teacher and a very creative class: Well Done P5/6!

This Week in P1

Maths

We had great fun learning all about the number 4.  We used the iPads, Lego and paint.  We also did a super job at helping Miss Scott to tidy up after all of our hard work.

Maths P1

Reading

We loved using finger torches during our reading lesson.   We shone the light on the words as we read them and this helped  us to follow the text.

Reading p1

PE

In PE we worked very hard to move our bodies in a controlled way through Bilateral Integration activities. We gently tapped our partner’s arms or legs  and they had to lift the limb that was tapped.  This is also helping us with our concentration and our ability to follow instructions.untitled

Teach Your Teacher Day!

The children in Primary 5 have swapped roles with Miss Gillespie today and yesterday as she became a student and they became the teacher! All the children worked in groups to plan a 45 minute lesson. Each group worked well in their teams to think of a topic, write a lesson plan and organise all of their resources. We learnt about different art techniques, cars, South Africa, the Euros and different sports. Miss Gillespie was very impressed with all the aspiring teachers and enjoyed being a pupil for the morning!
