Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome back for 2022!

It has been great to see the full return of school this week and we have been fortunate that our school has seen high attendance rates for pupils and staff.  For a school roll of just under 1500, around 20 pupils and 4 members of staff have been isolating due to covid. Working within current guidelines, we continue to prioritise any mitigations which help to minimise transmission within school, including: operating double periods; sanitising rooms between classes; keeping rooms ventilated; and sanitising on entry to the building.  Pupils are reminded of the need to wear masks (unless exempt) and we very much appreciate parental support in adhering to current national guidance.

Our senior pupils completed the majority of their mid-term assessments prior to the Christmas break and arrangements are currently in place for those who missed any due to illness/absence.

This session is always particularly busy in relation to subject option choices, as our planning and preparation for next session gets underway.  Information is shared in this week’s blog about key transition stages and dates for your diary.

October – The Right to Learn

November – The Right to a clean environment

December – the Right to feel safe (picture of our locket bridge and safety pledges)

 Moving forward this term, we have adapted our focus to reflect our 2-weekly timetable and will launch our FORTRIGHT (Right of the Fortnight) focus with Article 14 – the right to freedom of expression and religion. Our pupil parliament will have responsibility for keeping the article highlighted via in-school media channels…a great opportunity for teamwork from our parliamentary committees on Digital Media and Rights Ambassadors!


As the new school term gets underway, SQA is very aware that the ongoing pandemic continues to impact on your child’s learning and teaching.  Please follow the link below to read the latest message for parents and carers.

Pupils in S4/5 will soon begin to consider their progression options for next session, with discussions taking place in subject classes and in PSHE.  This will culminate in pupils having a 1:1 interview with their respective pupil support teacher when they are ready to make provisional choices.  To help parents support this process, a parents’ information session has been arranged for Wednesday 19 January at 6.30 pm and will be delivered online.

Similarly, the process for options will begin in S2 where pupils are given the chance to choose subjects within the curricular areas and framework of the Broad General Education.  Information about this process will be available for parents on Tuesday 25 January at 6.30 pm online.  S2 pupils then have an opportunity on 26 January to find out more about different career pathways and professions via our S2 Developing the Young Workforce day. This takes place during the school day and  pupils have the chance to hear first-hand about different jobs/careers from a range of practitioners.  On Tuesday 1 February, we host our S2 online parents’ evening.  At the beginning of next week, S2 parents will receive details about the online booking system and will be able to arrange appointments with class teachers.  Thereafter, S2 1:1 interviews between Pupil Support staff and young people will begin.

Pupils will be issued with their Mid-term assessment reports next Thursday, 20th January. It will be accompanied by a detailed covering letter which advises parents on how to follow up on any issues/concerns in the report. Parents and pupils should pay close attention to any recommended level changes at this stage and use the feedback form to respond if necessary.
