Live Literature Residency at Greenfaulds High School 2025-26

Read about and admire the artwork created at theScottish Book Trust sponsored Live Literature Residency at Greenfaulds High School 2025-26.

S3 Art and Design pupils took inspiration from the Gaelic ‘tree’ alphabet and participated in drawing and mono-printing activities, focusing on leaves, and then they created 18 decorative illuminated letters for the Gaelic alphabet. This artwork was passed onto S1 & S4 pupils in Gaelic and English, and they took inspiration from it and created short poems with the theme of nature, which were based on Japanese haikus. S3 Art and Design pupils explored the ideas and imagery within the haikus and chose one or two to read and illustrate, using lino cutting and printmaking as the medium for the illustrations. The final artwork and poetry has been displayed within the Art & Design, Gaelic and English departments, using the form of a poster. It can also be viewed on the school website too.

The pupils enjoyed using their imaginations and learning more about haikus, the Gaelic alphabet, and printmaking/illustration. It was a great experience to work with talented artist Kate Leiper and to learn how to create illustrations and different lino-cut prints with inks.

Art & Design, English and Gaelic staff and pupils at GHS would like to thank artist Kate Leiper for all of her hard work and the sessions for pupils and staff, and thanks go to The Scottish Book Trust for sponsoring this residency which has helped to promote reading and writing for pleasure.
