SCHOOL NEWS

PE DEPARTMENT

Huge congratulations to the S1 Football Team who managed to finish off their season by winning the Lanarkshire League Final. Fantastic performance and result, beating Cardinal Newman 5-1 to claim the trophy. Well done to all 26 boys who have been part of the squad throughout the entire season.

Massive Congratulations to Amy Kennedy in S6 who has been invited to compete for Scotland at the Loughborough International Athletics Meet this weekend, which will be her first senior vest. Amy has been an age group athlete for some time and involved in GB development squads, so it is a massive achievement and honour to be selected as a full senior athlete at this level.

READ FOR REFUGEES SUNFLOWER READING CHALLENGE

The sunflower challenge is inspired by the national flower of Ukraine. You are encouraged to participate in the UK Read for Refugees Sunflower Challenge.

After ten million Ukrainians have had to leave their homes, we are asking students to take part in a sponsored read to raise money for the United Nations Refugee Agency which provides emergency assistance for refugees worldwide.

Students could ask for donations from friends and family per page, chapter, or book read; by hours spent reading; or simply for a flat donation to support their involvement.

All donations, no matter what the amount, will support the work of the Refugee Agency. All sponsors can donate directly on the project’s Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sunflower-challenge

If you would like to take part and be involved in raising funds for refugees worldwide and also be in with a chance to win some great prizes, both nationally and in school, please collect a sponsor sheet from the librarian. For more information and to enter the national competitions go to https://www.sla.org.uk/read-for-refugees

STEM TRIP

Miss Oyler took a team of S2 pupils to a Royal Academy of Engineers STEM competition at All Saints High School in Glasgow. They completed against other schools in various Mars themed challenges including designing and building a transmitter tower, and making a prototype space rock collector, as well as learning about engineering careers. They brought home two trophies for the best space rock collector and for the best budgeting! Well done!

 S1 GEOGRAPHY TRIP

The Social Subjects faculty enjoyed a Geography trip on the Fife Coastal Path walking from Crail to Anstruther. For the most part we had glorious sunshine and only a short light shower on the walk. Pupils felt challenged on the walk but it was worth it in the end for a visit to the Anstruther Fish Bar. Everyone was a credit to themselves and the school.
