Pi day

The pupils in Greenfaulds High decided to celebrate Pi Day to raise money for the school.

Pi day falls each year on March 14th when the date reads 3.14.

Pi is an irrational number but is usually rounded to 2 decimal places, which is 3.14!!

To celebrate all things circular each students, when in Maths, were treated to a doughnut while the teachers enjoyed some ‘3.14’ apple or lemon meringue pie for lunch. In total 660 doughnuts and 8 pies were eaten and the total money raised was £260.

The school also had its annual S1 ‘Pi Memorising Competition’. This year’s winner was Kate Buttenshaw who memorised Pi to a whopping 170 decimal places. Pi-tastic! In second place was Justin Adams and in third place was Aidan Pritchard. A huge well done to all pupils who took part in the competition.

RMPS Higher Trip to Samye LIng Buddhist Monastery )

Students from the RMPS Higher class went on an all-day excursion last week to the Kagyu Samye LIng Tibetan Buddhist Monastery near Eskdalemuir.   As a means to deepen and enrich their understanding of Buddhism, they were given a guided tour of the stunningly beautiful temple and grounds. They also enjoyed experiences such as a guided meditation for beginners and monks using traditional Tibetan instruments as part of their chanting practice.

Art and Design Department

S1 Extended Learning illustration pupils attended an illustration workshop with the Scottish artist and illustrator Kate Leiper on Monday 14th March (pm). Pupils enjoyed finding out about illustration and Kate Leiper’s artwork as well as illustrating part of a Scottish mythical tale: Assipattle and the Stoor Worm.

P7 pupils enjoyed a morning of art & design and drama activities; including painting, clay work, printmaking, costume design and still pictures, when they visited GHS for a visit on Tuesday 8th March. 42 pupils from all of the different associate primaries spent a morning together doing the different activities and mixing with some GHS S1-S3 helpers. Everyone produced some excellent work and put a lot of effort into their dramatic performances.
