The Building

Dykehead Primary School is a non-denominational and co-educational school. The school is a modern, open plan building situated in the centre of the Dykehead area in Shotts. The building is a modern, open plan building which opened in 1987. Our school has three department areas; Infant, Junior and Senior. The building is open plan with a total of 14 bays. Nine bays are currently used as teaching bays with other areas used as an Infant Play bay, a French bay, an ICT suite and a Conference bay for use by pupil groups. We have a gym hall which is also used as our dining area, a Music Room and a Visiting Services Room which is used for meeting parents, outside agencies, etc.

Shotts is a former mining community with a population which has expanded to 14,500 people. The local town amenities include a leisure centre and pool, library, community centre, theatre and health centre, which are utilised by the school. The catchment area consists of local authority and private housing.

Our Community

The school plays an active role within the immediate community and through liaison with the wider community and other educational establishments. We are part of a cluster of schools  who enjoy particularly good liaison with our associated Secondary, Calderhead High School, which is within walking distance.
