Cumbernauld Primary School

Transition Letters

Dear Parents and Carers of our New Primary 1 Pupils,

We hope you are all well and starting to get excited as your child embarks on their next journey. We certainly can’t wait to get to know you and our new pupils better!

At this time of year I would normally invite the children to our school library to listen to one of our favourite stories and then complete a little follow-up task. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic we are unable to hold these sessions but I have sent you two links to watch with your child at home.

Clip 1

Sit back and relax and enjoy listening to a story. You can pause the clip at any time and chat with your child about the characters or the storyline. The children might meet some well-known characters from nursery rhymes or traditional tales. Can they guess who they are or predict the ending?

Clip 2

This clip suggests a simple follow-up activity. I have sent your child an envelope containing the resources they require to complete the task. You just need a glue. The envelope may come via your child’s nursery, an older sibling at Cumbernauld Primary or through your letter box.

We would love you to send a photograph of your child with their completed task. We hope to create a transition display to help welcome our new pupils and would love to add some photographs. Please send your photograph to enquiries@cumbernauld-pri.n-lanark.sch.uk

You can access the clips by clicking on the links below:

I hope your child enjoys listening to the story and completing the fun activity.

I wish you all a wonderful Easter break with lots of sunshine and Easter eggs!

Best wishes
