A huge welcome to our new P1s

Primary 1 had a fantastic first day at school and settled in really well. We are delighted to welcome them into our Cumbernauld Family. Here’s some pictures of them in their new classrooms.

Primary 1 First Few Days

See the source imageDear Primary 1 Parents and Carers,

We are looking forward to your child starting school and hope the children are feeling excited.  We understand that starting school at this time may be causing you and/or your child some anxiety or additional worries.  Please be assured that we have been working hard to put special measures in place; implementing Scottish Government guidance for the return to school.

One-way system

Primary 1 pupils have their own separate gate for entry at the start of the day and for collection at the end of the day. The gate is situated near our school pitch and sports pavilion, at the top of the hill in front of the playpark. Unfortunately parents are not permitted in our school playground.  Therefore, we will have a one-way system in place.

Entry to school:

  • One adult and child should enter by the Primary 1 gate.
  • Primary One pupil is then dropped off just before playground gate where they will be met by a staff member and guided to class.
  • Adults continue on long pathway (along pitch) and exit school via our staff carpark.

We are opting for a soft start for Primary 1 pupils. For Wednesday 12th, Thursday 13th and Friday 14th August; Primary 1 pupils can start between 9.45am and 10.15am.  Please make use of this half hour soft start to avoid too many people arriving at the same time.

Collection:

  • On the 12th, 13th and 14th August, Primary 1a pupils (Mrs Wares) can be collected at 1.45pm and Primary 1b pupils (Mrs Canning and Mrs Steven) can be collected at 2.00pm.
  • One way system remains in place for collection. Adults should enter P1 gate and walk to long pathway beside pitch. Adults should then spread out along path to maintain social distancing.
  • The class teacher will call the name of each individual pupil.
  • As your child’s name is called, please step forward to collect your child and exit by the gate to the staff carpark. Please keep hold of your child’s hand when in this area.

Please note, parking in the staff carpark is not permitted.

Week beginning 17th August:

From Monday 17th August school starting times for all pupils will be from 9.00am. Primary 1 pupils can be collected at 2.45pm. We will follow the same procedures as outlined above. The Primary 1 gate will remain in place for entry and collection.  We will review these arrangements and inform you if any changes are necessary.

I will attempt to make a short video to support arrangements above.  Staff will be on site to offer support throughout.  Please also check our school website for information from NLC and Cumbernauld Primary.  We will share photographs of the children settling in as we know how important it is for you to share in your child’s special first days of school.

Thank you so much for your patience, cooperation and understanding.  We look forward to working in partnership with you.

Update from NLC

Advice for parents

Schools update Tuesday 23 June 2020, 17:00

Today’s announcement from the Scottish Government outlines the plan to reopen all schools on a full time basis from August.

We are currently considering the practicalities and implications of this announcement and will await further clarification and guidance from government, particularly in relation to public health and scientific advice.

Our priority is the safety of our pupils and staff across our network of primary, secondary and ASN schools, as well as our early learning and childcare settings.

We understand that you will have questions, and as this news was only announced today, we will make further information available on how this impacts on our schools and facilities in the coming days.

We are preparing for pupils to return full-time to school on 12 August and we will be working closely with our schools and partners, including our early years and childcare provision to establish our plans, which we will communicate as soon as we are in a position to.
