Kilbowie Tuesday

Hi Alexander here, today we had to do safari, which was about watching birds and seeing trapped voles.  It was Ok, but I was a little bored at times.  I am really looking forward to doing skiing and Gorge walking over the next few days.  So far I am having fun.  by Alexander

Today we went rock climbing, it was really fun.  We got to climb and abseil, while my friends were holding the rope.  After that we had to make our beds and tidy our rooms, which was boring.  So far I’m having a great time, we are playing in the games room at the moment, whilst we wait for dinner.  I am looking forward to tonight’s activity and hope to have lots more fun tomorrow, by Aaron.

Tuesday, the 6th, I did an adventure, safari walk.  It was Ok.  We found bank voles and we lay on the ground and then played a game.  when we came back in Derek told us about different animals and their bones. This was interesting and  found out that the Alaskan Deer was very tall, almost to the ceiling.  I would like a more exciting activity tomorrow, but I am having lots of fun, by Grace S.

On Tuesday, our first day, we went rock climbing and abseiling.  The first climb that we did was the easiest, we used a rope, harness and had to wear a helmet.  The 2nd climb was slightly harder than the first, but the 3rd was the hardest because we had to climb up and abseil down the rock.  Some people didn’t do the last one, but most of us loved it.  It was a great first activity and I can’t wait until tomorrow.  by Naomi.

Today, we went to the lab and we were learning about different types of animals that once lived in Scotland.  Then we went outside, on a safari and we learned about different rodents, such as bank voles.  We were also learning about different birds and predators, I found this activity very interesting.  For the rest of the week, I would really like to experience either Gorge walking or Rock climbing.  I am having a great time so far.  By Helen

Today we met Derek, who was our instructor for the Safari.  He was very funny ad made some really funny jokes.  We did half our activity in the lab and half outside, adventuring around the grounds.  We got to see bones and skulls from animals, and even held some.  Outside we checked some traps and he had caught 3 bank voles.  He told us some of their features, we were allowed to stroke one and then they were released into the ‘mouse highway’ (holes in moss) again.  I am having a lot of fun, as soon as we arrived we did an activity and we are intending on doing another tonight.  I can’t wait.  By Abigail.

My first activity was rock climbing, which was with Fiona, our trainer.  The rock climbing area is not in the grounds, so we took a minibus trip, after getting our kit.  this was a Ganavan beach, the rocks were quite sharp and quite steep in some areas, but some were easier to climb than others.   To get to the top we had 2 people going at the same time, 1 attached below the other and we worked as a team to help each other up.  by Grace Benson

I did the safari with Derek today.  It was interesting but I wished it was more a little more exciting and I got to be more involved.  We learned about different habitats, and some animals that live there.  After that Derek showed us some traps, which contained voles.  After that he fed the seagulls, we kept quiet and watched them.  When he finished feeding them , he told us about different kinds of birds and their nests.  Tomorrow I am hoping that we do either canoeing or Gorge walking, fingers crossed I get one of them.  by Carly

This afternoon we did rock climbing & abseiling.  The first 2 tasks were climbing u the mountain which was very fun.  The first time I was partnered with Leah and the second I was partnered with Charlie.  Then we did abseiling.  Only 1 person was allowed to do it at a time, but there were 5 people holding the rope for me and I had to trust them.  They kept on pulling my rope up, and it meant that it pulled me up.  I am looking forward to Gorge walking.  by Joshua Russell

Today we arrived at Kilbowie. First when we got in and we went to our bedrooms.  We did activities and were put into groups.  Our first activities was Safari.  We set traps and found animals, which were called bank voles.  After that we went to the games room for free time and then had our dinner.  After dinner we played an orienteering game which was fun but I got very wet and muddy. I can’t wait until tomorrow, the activities are going to be so fun.  by Breige

Our first day in Kilbowie and it was great fun.  We did rock climbing first, which was fun but a little scary.  I did the rock climbing activities but didn’t manage to complete the abseiling, as I had slipped too many times.  I helped other people in my group to get up to the top safely & to come back down.  After this activity I had to unpack my suitcase and make my own bed, which was a nightmare and took me nearly an hour.  We had free time in the games room and then some orienteering outside, which was very fun but wet.  We all got soaked but now we are doing our Logbooks and are looking forward to supper. by Nico
