This week Primary 7 have been participating in special math activities. We have been mixing maths with other subjects.
For instance, on Monday we mixed maths with P.E. In P.E we played tennis, but, before we played the game we measured out courts to play in. Also on Monday we looked at volume for the first time. We learned how to figure out the volume of cubes and cuboids and we are still working on surfaces.
On Tuesday we continued doing more work on volume by revising what we learned the day before. We started off by finding out the volume of the shape. We were able to do this because of our fantastic multiplication skills. We multiplied the length by the height by the width to get the answer. To find the surface area, for example, if it was a cube you would times the height and width together, then multiply this number by six because there are six faces (areas) on a cube.
Also on Wednesday we did maths in P.E again. We were still focusing on tennis but once you hit the tennis ball, you would say a station of a times table of the teachers choice. Primary 7 have also begun finding surfaces areas of shapes.
Yesterday we continued learning about volume and surfaces. All of us also went to the hall to take part in some measuring activities with primary six in the gym hall. There was lots of stations with games that were for measuring. It was lots of fun and well done Mrs Macintyre.
We hope all classes have enjoyed the different activities that took place throughout the week. We certainly did.
In other news, on Tuesday, Primary 7 are going to Kilbowie! We’re all extremely excited about going and participating in all the activities.
I am glad that most of you enjoyed yourself. I have read your evaluations and will take your points on board for next Maths week – like not mixing maths with PE
