P.E
In P.E these past weeks we have been working on tennis. We are learning about ball handling and how to keep it on our racket and make sure it doesn’t go everywhere. Some strokes in tennis are forehand, backhand, volleys, smashing and serving. The most powerful one is smashing as you do it at the net.
I.D.L
In I.D.L we have been learning about the different groups of animals. They can be classed as vertebrates and invertebrates. The different groups of vertebrates are mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. We looked at pictures of different animals and matched them up with their name on a sheet. We also looked at what makes being that certain animal classed as that e.g mammals give birth rather than laying an egg.
Maths
In maths we have been looking at the median, the range, the mode and the mean. The mean is where you add all thee numbers up e.g 5+9+8+3+3+2+1+1=32 and then you divide it by how many numbers you have so it would be 32/8=4 so 4 would be the answer. Next is the median(middle). The median is where the number is the centre number but first u have to put the numbers in order. 6,9,4,3,7=3,4,6,7,9 and then the answer would be,=6 . The mode is next. The mode is a number that appears most in that pattern for example 1,1,2,2,3,3,3,4,4,6,7,8,9,9 the most common is=3. The range is where you take the biggest number away from the smallest example 12,92,81,100,52,11 you would do the sum 100-11=89 .
High School Visit
Yesterday a woman called Leonthoea came to see us. She was a personal support teacher and we could go and talk to her if we were worried about anything. She let us make up a first year student. Ours was called Jake and he was very smart. He also got bullied. Then at the end she told us about coming to school on the last week of the summer holidays for Chryston High summer sizzler. At first nobody wanted to go because it was going to school in the holidays! But then she showed us a video and everybody wants to come! We even get to go to the safari park!
Language
In language we have started a new book called ‘Jammy Dodgers on the Run’. We have been looking at different strategies to help us like: Prior Knowledge, Metalinguistics, Main Events/ideas, Summary, Visualisation and Inference. We are all loving our new book.
Scottish Opera
Last Friday, three people from the Scottish Opera came to our school. We put on a great performance, over 50 people came to see us! We had to wear these silly costumes that made us feel really hot. In total we sang about 8 songs. It was a great performance and the whole class really enjoyed taking part in this amazing experience! By Emma and Neve!
What an extremely busy fortnight!
What a busy two weeks and its only going to get busier. P1/2 are starting to learn about tennis, it would be good if some of you could work with them.
You will have many more visits to High School and from their staff. I am really looking forward to hearing about this weeks science visit.
looks like work again
