Harry Potter!

In primary 5/6 we have been working on our new topic which is Harry Potter. In Harry Potter we have been doing really cool Harry Potter artwork. Our first peace of artwork was a water colour sky background with Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry.

We split into 6 different groups and each created something for the classroom. One group made 9 3/4 sign on our door to the classroom . Another group made a sketch of Harry Potter  and his owl hedwig . My group did a broomstick from the Qiditch .  And finally the last group made a sorting hat . By Niamh Fleming

Trip to Summerlee

On Friday we had our school trip to Summerlee Heritage Center. We got the chance to go on the tram, look at the coal miners cottages, went down the coal mines and even some time to play in the park.

We then took part in a workshop where we learned some very interesting facts and had the chance to look at and feel some resources.

Have a look through our slideshow of photos!

Plastic

Our new topic is the benefits and problems of plastic . We looked at Indonesia and found rivers and canals filled with plastic . It was so bad they called in the army to help scoop out some of the plastic . The authorities in Bandung area  are paying people small amounts of money to recycle properly . With this information we created a news report .

We look forward to learning more about our topic .

#GoldGoalsChrystonPrimary !!

On Monday 26th March the whole school took part in Fitness Circuits for Sports Relief. We did hula hops,Dance, Balancing, shuttle runs and speed bounce and Basket ball there was only 3 people who got all 3 basket balls in. This was lots of fun.

At each station if you completed the goal you got a sticker. We all came to school in our gym clothes and raised money for the sports relief charity.

This week

This week we have been doing parallel and perpendicular lines. We found out that parallel lines are lines that will never meet and perpendicular lines meet to make a 90 degree angle.

On world book day we did a fun quiz our teacher made for us and the winning group would get a prize we also did a words search and had to find a lot of authors and characters and book names. It was really fun

Our snapshot jotters got lots of work in them and they have been sent home to parents for them to look at what we are doing and leave a comment on our work.

On our topic we are doing the coal mines and we created cool pictures of the jobs in the coal mines and we coloured it in with charcoal and it looked very effective.

Maths

This week in maths we have been learning shapes. We have been learning how many faces a shape has how many edges a shape has and how many vertices a shape has for example a cube has 6 faces 12 edges and 8 vertices.

It’s really fun, also in art we did a little bit on shapes as well we learned how to do tesselations with shapes we could pick what ever shape we wanted then we had to trace it onto a bit of paper and some how it has to all join together.

We also created 3D cubes with straws and pipe cleaners. We had to make sure each side was even to allow the cube to stand up! Look at our creations.

Then as you know in class we have been really busy but all of our lessons have been really fun.

Health Committee

Last week as part of our Health Committee we had a special guest come in to visit. His name was Ross and he is a tennis coach. He spoke to all the children about the importance of being fit and healthy and we even had some volunteers to show us some exercises to do.

He told us all about his sport of Tennis and how many competitions he has taken part in. He even brought in some Trophies to show us which are really heavy!

We have decided to create our own lessons to teach children of all ages for 15 minutes and show the children different games and activities they can take part in!
