The Undergirl

At last a movie

Over the past few weeks we’ve been working with lots of different technology to make some animated movies.  this all started from creating out own profiles for super heroes, then writing a story about them.  We broke the story down using story boards and created these animations and scripts using that.  We used the Ipads to create music on garage band, and would like to say a big thanks to P6 for their help with this. Mr Flanigan will upload our movie reviews and links to our master pieces in the next few days.  This was quite a difficult project, because we used lots of different programms and computers, but after seeing our final movies, we are delighted with what we’ve done.

We are Mugicians (magic musicians)

As part of our learning in literacy week, we took one of the Winnie the Witch books and made it more interesting by adding some music and reading it out loud.  We asked our teacher to film it for us so everyone can enjoy it.

As we are still having some roofing work done, there are a couple of bangs we didn’t plan on having.

Click here, then sit back, relax and enjoy the story.

We had to go out in the rain!!!!!

This week we went to Chryston Library in the pouring rain.  Luckily the library has now moved into the high school building so we didn’t need to go too far.  At the Library, we looked at the picture books Dear Vampa, and The True Story of The Three Little Pigs.  Emma thought the books were amazing, and Erin thought they were even better than the ones we read with words in them.  We spoke about out favourite authors.  Lots of us like Roahld Dahl, David Walliam Julia Donaldson, Holly Webb, and Dr. Seuss.  Cole still loves the Magic Key Books though.

Last week we started learning about the 2 times tables and this week we moved onto the 5 times tables.  We know that the pattern in the 2 times table means you go up in 2’s amd in the 5 times table you go up in 5’s.  We can’t wait to learn about them all.

Next week we will be out and about starting our superhero duties, lets hope the waether is a bit better than it was on Thursday or we’ll all end up soaked again!!!!!

We are superheroes

This week we started learning about superheroes.  We already knew that superheroes are kind and help people, and we can be superheroes if we help people.

We made our own superheroes and decided what superpowers they should have.

In maths we have been using money.  We have been adding up different amounts and working out how much change to give.  We have been using all coins up to £1. We also learned a new way of subtracting by actually counting on.  Strange we know, but ask us about it and we’ll try to explain.

We are starting to use a programme called comic life, we used photobooth to take photos and put them into a comic we starred in.

Most of us are really tired this week, but we hope that we feel more energetic next week.

Happy New Year from all in Primary 3

Buggies Rock!

This afternoon we have been making Buggies to carry a rock down a ramp.  We used old boxes, wooden axels, wooden wheels and anything else we could find in the class room.

We got the chance to use real saws and learned how to use these safely, but we won’t use them at home without our parents.

Each team worked together to make one buggy that they designed and tested to see how well this design worked.  We all worked very well in our teams.

If you want to try making your own buggies here are some of our ideas from the time we spent doing it (We tested ours so we know what we’re talking about):

  • Gather all the materials you need before you start.
  • Make sure you make the axles big enough so that the wheels can fit and still move.
  • be careful when gluing the wheels incase you stick them to the buggy.
  • Try making the buggy stronger because the rocks were heavy.
  • Some of our wheels fell off, but some people used a bit of blu tac to hold theirs on.
  • We’d like at some point to decorate ours, so try to leave time for this as well.
  • Be careful of the height of the wheels as the buggy might touch the ground.
  • Make sure you have an adult to watch and help when using the saw.
  • If making holes with a pencil make sure you use a sponge and push the pencil into it.

Every one of us worked very hard on this task, and Mr. Flanigan is very impressed and very proud at how well we did today.

If you try making buggies we hope you have as much fun as we did. Please take some time to comment on our work.

Be safe and have fun.  Primary 3
