Exploring our local area, Chryston and Muirhead

Primary 3 went out on a local walk on Wednesday 3rd February 2016. We went in the afternoon and were very lucky with the weather. Mrs McCrae and Mrs McLoone also came with us. We were walking for almost an hour and our feet were sore when we got back to school. We went on the walk because we have been learning about Chryston and Muirhead as part of our topic this term.

We were also on a shape hunt because we have been learning to describe 2D shapes in maths.

Here are some of the things we learned –

Andrew – We learned that down the road near Chryston there was a place that was a cinema years and years ago.

Dionne – We also went into partners and we took the ipads too to take pictures.

Nieve – We went on a shape hunt to find different 2D shapes.

Ryan – We went a walk around Chryston to learn more facts about Chryston because our local area is our topic.

Connor – I found out that the toll cottage used to be a place where you had to pay to get into Chryston.

Niamh – I found the church and rectangles.

Mya – We found out that (many years ago) in the park there was a pond so that the horses could have a drink.

Craig – I found out where the Nicholson center was.

This is the building where the cinema used to be. The films were silent and someone used to play the piano.

Inventions

Our School Trip

Primary 3 went to the Peoples Palace in Glasgow. Some of us had been before and some of us had not. We had our lunch in the Winter Gardens. We had a look around and then we went to a workshop. The workshop talked about our topic inventions. We had lots of fun.

Here are some of the things we learned and liked:

Caiden- I learned in the olden days there were no planes. They went on holiday by boat.

Ewan- I learned that in the olden days they said ‘Doon the Waater’ when they were going on holiday.

Dionne- I enjoyed our workshop with Laura.

Rhys- I learned that a hairdryer looked funny in the olden days.

Niamh- I learned that old houses were very different.

Craig- I learned that telephones are really good.

Riley- I hated the smell of the old soap you had to use in the steamie.

Conor- I enjoyed when we were at the steamie.

Rebecca- In the olden days a baby had to sit in the drawer.

Jason- I think it was really squashed in a single end (one bedroomed house).

Hugh- I liked the old jail.

Mya- I liked the little house and the steamie.

Cameron- All the hoovers in the olden days look very different.

Lewis- I bet it was horrible sharing your bath with your brothers and sisters.

Olivia- I loved it when we got to do all the fun activities.

Andrew- I enjoyed going to the toy shop.

Aiden- I learned that you wear funny hats when you get married.

Ryan- In the steamie everybody had to wash there stuff at the same place.

Jay- I liked when we got to play with the inventions.

Daniel- I know that cameras were really old. I know that you had to hold the camera down look and look through the top to take a picture.

Our New Topic

Inventions Topic

Last week we did a lot of work for our new topic. We looked at a camera that was 50 years old. We matched things that were old and new. We also researched when things were invented.

Ewan also brought in an old telephone that belonged to his granddad. It was a great phone to look at!

Here are some of our thoughts on the topic:

Caiden- I thought our topic was good.

Niamh- My favourite station was the IPad station. I found out when IPads were invented.

Daniel- I liked the IPads because I got to see lots of different years.

Craig- I liked being on the Ipads too.

Andrew- My favourite station was the sorting station. We had to put everything in the correct order.

Nieve- My favourite station was the match station because I got to learn was from the olden days and what is new.

Conor- I liked looking at the old camera because it looked like it was 50 years old.

Rhys- I liked the camera because you could draw a picture of it and we looked at all the details on it.

Ryan- I liked the sorting area because we started sorting all the olden days ones first.

Riley- My favourite when we got to compare the old camera and the IPad.

P3 Update!

In literacy we have all been learning trickier books. We have been learning about lines of symmetry in maths. It was a bit confusing but now we get it!

Our new topic is Inventions. We have talked about important things we need everyday. This week we will be doing a no electricity challenge and we will be looking at an old camera.

In P.E. we have been learning about co-ordination. We got to play elephant football which was really fun.

Thank you for reading our post,

Primary 3.

Literacy

This week in literacy we have been learning how to fill in missing words in sentences. We found the words in our books using the page number Miss Peattie told us to use. We thought that missing sentences were quite hard to start with but it got easier because we practiced. We were also writing three part stories. This means you need a beginning, a middle and an end.

For writing we had to write an application to be a Chryston Superhero. We do lots of things everyday that make us superheroes. We watched a video by The Kid President that talked about how we are a superhero and used this to help us. He said we could inspire others and we know we do that for the P1’s in the school.
