Christmas Art in P2

In Primary 2, we’ve been busy making our Christmas Art for the hall and our Jazzy Jars.

For the hall artwork, we made beautiful Christmas street scenes. First we had to paint the background blue for the sky and then we stuck on different sized rectangles for the houses. Everybody in Primary 2 did a fantastic job and they look fantastic.

We were also decorating our Jazzy Jars this week. We decorated them with pom poms, stickers and lots and lots of glitter. They all look brilliant and I bet whoever wins them in the raffle will be very happy. Thank you again to all the parents who donated jars!

Christmas has officially started in Primary 2!

Pudsey Day 2017

We have had a great week but I think Friday was Primary 2’s favourite day.
Roxana: It was Pudsey day and we went into the hall and got to decorate cakes and do pictures. And I got a picture with Gracie.
We have been doing lots around the school to raise money for Children in Need. All of the boys and girls in Primary 2 wore their own clothes and donated money. Lots of them even wore Pudsey clothes!
Ewan: We met Zoolab on Friday as well.
Liam: There were lots of animals – snakes, snails and lizards.
Sophie: At Zoolab we saw a tarantula.
Annie: I liked the spider the best.
Primary 2 were so excited to see all the different animals and learn about them. Primary 2 weren’t scared of any of the animals, though Miss Anderson was a little scared of the spider!
We had two birthdays in the class as well so we sang happy birthday!
Also Primary 2 were writing on the tables! We were practicing our chimney sums on the tables but luckily we used whiteboard pens so we could clean it off!
Sienna: I was scared that it would stain the table!
Donald: In maths when we wrote on the table I wrote my numbers very big!
Liam: I used yellow on the table and it turned green because our tables are blue and the colours mixed.
We had a fantastic Friday! Enjoy your long weekend everybody and see you on Tuesday!
Please leave a comment about what you did on Pudsey Day!

Week Ending 10th of November

Primary 2 have had a great week this week! There has been lots on in the school and we have been very busy in our class.

In numeracy, we have been working on addition using number squares and number lines and practicing these skills.

Roxana: And then we tried to do it without these where we could only use our heads.

Everyone did great at this and we are going to keep on working on addition by using different methods next week. We also did another Big Maths Beat That and everybody did great.

In literacy, we have been working on our reading and learning a new sounds and new common words.

Annie: Our new sounds was ‘ow’

Elliot: Know has our ‘ow’ sound in it.

Ava: Yellow has our ‘ow’ sound in it and its one of our common words.

We have been using our common words and sound in our dictation sentences this week. We read our sentence to our partner and they have to try write it on their whiteboard and get all the spelling correct.

We were also visited by a Paralympian athlete this week Jonathan Paterson. The children completed a series of circuits with Jonathan and then attended an assembly where Jonathan talking about his career. It was a fantastic event and all the children had a great time.

Here are some photos of P2 working hard in and out of class this week.

First week back

After our fantastic October holidays, Primary 2 have had a busy first week back.

In topic, we have been learning about toys from the past.
Sophie: Toys from the past are hand-made and not made by machines.
Roxana: Some toys from the past we still have and some we do not.
James: Toys from the past can’t walk or talk because there wasn’t technology.
Sienna: They were more difficult to buy.
Ewan: There’s different kinds of old toys like marbles, rocking horses and Jack-in-a-boxes.
I wonder if any of our parents reading remember their old toys. Leave us a comment about the toys you played with when you were younger!

With Halloween coming up, we also made our own pumpkins! Here are some boys and girls from P2 with theirs. They look fantastic!

Primary 2 were also lucky enough to get to watch a live broadcast with the children’s author Kes Gray about his new book! Lots of schools all across the country tuned in to see what Kes’s new book was going to be about.
Jared: He read us a story with a duck in it. The duck couldn’t say quack because he lost his ‘a’. He could only say ‘quck’.
Jay: He read books and there were rhyming words in them. He showed us his super power.
Arran: He had biscuit power. He threw the biscuits at the baddie.
Holly: Another story was called a frog on the log.

We have had a great week back in Primary 2!

Jump Gymnastics Roadshow

This week in Primary 2, we were so lucky because we got to go to the Jump Gymnastics Club Roadshow.
Annie: We learned to do a straddle – you put your legs out and put your hands on your ankles.
Sophie: We did a straight jump – you put your legs straight and then you put hands straight.
Alfie: We done the unicorn tails. The lady gave us a wee rope with lots of colours that we put in our back of our polo shirts.
Conor: We ran around with the unicorn.
Ava: We skipped with our unicorn tails.
Abi: We also did a cuddle jump so we jump and then we cuddle our knees.
Liam: We done a star jump and landing the jump you need to do a motorbike pose.
Arran: We done the tuck pose.
Ewan: We played banana tig. When a tigger tigs you, you have to put your hands together above your head and if someone peels your skin off you can go run again.
We had a great time at the gymnastics.
James: It was fandabbydozzy.
Also this week in Primary 2, we have been painting sunsets. First we painted the sky and then we painted the hills. We had great fun.

Maths Week

In Primary 2 this week, we have been taking part in Scottish Maths Week. We have been making and investigating patterns in lots of different lessons this week.

In Art, we decorated hot air balloons using different patterns. We used lots of different shapes and colours to make our balloons look fantastic!

In Gym this week, we put ourselves into lots of different patterns like girl, boy, girl, boy and arms up, arm out, arms down and repeat. We also did patterns in dancing with Jump Start Jonny!

In Literacy, we found patterns in words and used these patterns to make rhyming words. Here are some examples:
Sienna: “Cat and bat.”
Sophie: “Sat and mat.”
Jay: “Rat and that.”
Liam: “Three and free.”
Roxana: “See and bee.”

Finally of course we have been looking at patterns in our maths lessons. We were looking at patterns with shapes and colours and we continued these patterns. We also were looking at patterns in numbers and being pattern detectives to find and complete the pattern. We have also been learning to count in 2s and 10s.

We have had a great week using maths and patterns in lots of different lessons. We thought Maths Week was brilliant!

Being Healthy Cooks

Primary 2 have been busy preparing all kinds of healthy food over the last 2 days, so much so that we managed to make a 3 course meal. We started with potato and leek soup, then healthy pita pizzas and to finish we had some smoothies. It was important we followed good hygiene rules. First we washed our hands and we used antibacterial gel to make sure our hands were clean. Then we took off jewellery, tied our hair back and wore aprons. We developed our cooking skills by keeping safe when we used the children’s cooking knifes. We worked in small groups with the teacher and used the bridge technique to cut all of our fruit and vegetables. This means we have to glue our fingers together and put the knife through our bridge so that we don’t cut our fingers. Look at how neatly we cut our food. We had to put the fruit in the freezer over night so our smoothies were nice and cold.  In the afternoon the soup was cooked by an adult during our lunch time and then we got to taste it while we were making our healthy pita pizzas shapes/faces. Lots of us have tried some new foods like basil, oregano and spinach to name a few. We had a mango, pineapple and banana smoothie, a strawberry smoothie and a mango, pineapple, banana and spinach smoothie. Miss Langridge was surprised that the most popular smoothie was the green spinach smoothie, looks like P2 have all turned into popeye this week! They have definitely grown taller with all their healthy eating and are ready to be big P3’s! Smoothie recipes will be added along with smoothie pictures on Monday if you wish to make any of them at home with an adult!
