Our trip to the Tall Ship

We had a superb trip today to Glasgow Riverside Museum and the Tall Ship. We met Mrs Grinling and Hamish the cat, iced some sea biscuits and went on a scavenger hunt. Miss Bryce conquered her fear of ships (just a little bit!) and we got the chance to see lots of transport from the past. Primary 2 – what was the most favourite part of the trip for you? Leave a comment for us to read.

Focus on Food

We made milky fruit smoothies today in class for our Focus on Food slot. Everyone had the opportunity to cut fruits using their hand as a bridge or claw and using the sawing motion to make the melon, raspberries, banana and strawberries into bite size pieces. Miss Bryce brought in her special smoothie maker. We added milk and strawberry yogurt and switched the mixture on. 2 minutes later, we had a lovely, healthy breakfast smoothie. Most of the children liked the taste. Did you enjoy this activity, boys and girls? Leave a comment on our blog.

Our allotment visit.

We had a great time at the allotment. Mrs Raeburn helped us to plant sweet peas in flower pots. We packed in the soil, put in the seeds and watered them. They are now staying in the poly tunnel to give them the best start as they will be delicate for a while and we don’t want the Chapelhall winds to ruin them before they’re strong enough. Thank you, Mrs Raeburn and the men and women of the Allotment Association who welcomed us there.

Science is fun!

Primary 2 tried out some floating and sinking science experiments today. They made predictions about which objects they thought would float and which ones would sink. They enjoyed conducting their experiments and Miss McIntyre set everyone a challenge. Could they make a piece of play dough float in the water? It was difficult but one or two managed to work out a solution. Everyone had a great time.

Hamish is missing!

imageHamish the cat is gone! We came into class to find him missing from his basket and a note left for us. We worried all day and made missing posters to see if anyone had seen him. Next day he left another note to say he was missing us but was hungry. We asked Mrs Carson if she had seen him in the dinner hall. She told us, for health and hygiene reasons, he wouldn’t be in the kitchen. Mr Murray, who has organised all our cooking activities, suggested that the only other places that would have food were the staff room and the resource room where our cooking ingredients are stored. Everyone searched high and low and we eventually found him. We brought him back to class and he’s been with us ever since. Naughty Hamish!

Outdoor Learning

We took the chance, while the weather was good, to get out to Honeywell Habitats and check if our wigloo was functional and we even took time to get some pictures taken at Eddie’s bench. Miss McIntyre sneaked into one of the photos!

Our topic is nearly over……..

The children have had a wonderful time learning all about Vikings and Superheroes. We played a “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” game about our topic and earned loads of house points and gems for our house and group.

We are going to watch “How To Train Your Dragon” on the last day of our topic as a special treat for working hard to learn about people in the past. P2 – what have you enjoyed most about your topic?

Multiplication is fun!

Primary 2 children are learning how to multiply and they are using practical materials to help them with their tasks. Here they are working out the answers to some tricky questions. They are doing well with this concept and can explain how to find the answers.
