Congratulations to the Calderhead High School senior boys’ football team involved in the victory against Holy Cross HS in the Lanarkshire cup. They will take part in the next round against Cardinal Newman at Sir Matt Busby Sports Centre in Bellshill on Wednesday, 2nd March.
Jamie Shaw – Generation 2016
Congratulations to Calderhead High School pupil, Jamie Shaw, S5, who has been selected to become part of BBC Scotland’s Generation 2016.
With the Scottish elections looming, the BBC want to represent the breadth of young people’s perspectives in all communities and Jamie will be involved in BBC TV, radio and online content. Well done, Jamie!
Letter issued regarding standardised school week
A letter explaining the introduction of a standardised 33 period week across North Lanarkshire secondary schools has been issued to pupils.

Course Choice Information Evening – Thursday, 18th February
S2, S3, S4 and S5 pupils will soon be making important decisions about their course choices for the next academic year.
Pupils, parents and carers are invited to come along to the Calderhead High School Course Choice Information Evening on Thursday, 18th February 2016. All pupils and parents from S2, S3, S4 and S5 are most welcome. It’s an opportunity to speak with the Senior Management Team regarding course structure and the options process. Pupil Support staff will be on hand to answer and advise both pupils and parents. Tea and Coffee will be supplied and the event starts at 6 pm.
S4 and S5 will have a meeting with Mr Graham (6 pm) and then afterwards the opportunity to speak with Pupil Support staff.
S2 and S3 will have a meeting with Ms Darragh (6 pm) and thereafter the opportunity to speak with Pupil Support staff.
The course choice process is a very important time in the school calendar and as such we would encourage parents to help us to support our young people by attending the event with them.

Saltire Awards
Vex Competition 2016
Pupils from Calderhead HS team took part in the Vex Competition in Coatbridge. They got through to the semi-finals. Well done, boys! In the VEX Competitions, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test on the playing field as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more.

S3 Calderhead pupils learned how to create bruises during a recent SFX makeup workshop. Look out Hollywood!
S5 Pupils Celebrate Burns Night
Christmas Jumper Day
Calderhead High School S5 pupils organised a Christmas jumper day for Friday 18th December to raise money for the charity “Text Santa”. They encouraged staff and pupils from the school to wear a Christmas jumper on the condition that they texted a donation to Santa.
Declan, Dylan, Cameron and Connor were encouraged by Mrs Crawford to promote the event and commented “It’s igniting the Christmas spirit around the school and raises money for charity.”
The money raised will be donated to MacMillan Cancer Support, Make a Wish and Save the Children.
Calderhead High School Does Strictly Come Dancing
Staff and pupils at Calderhead High School participated in their very own Strictly Come Dancing competition on 16 December. The standard of dance was extremely high so congratulations to our winners, Mrs Buchanan and Mr Russell.
A special thanks to Santa who took time from his busy schedule to come along.
