November Jam 2016 is a totally FREE event for all young people in the Wishaw and Shotts area. Workshops currently confirmed are: mountain biking, SFX makeup, drama, working with Reeltime Music, explosive science, dance and fun athletics. It’s happening at Coltness High School on Saturday 12 November 2016. There are limited transport spaces and the buses return after 5pm (which means no transport at end of the event!)
Children in Need Week, 14th to 18th November 2016
The School Captains, House Captains, Prefects and S6 pupils have organised a number of events for Children in Need week, culminating in a school show on Friday, 18th November 2016.
The planned events include:
- Guess the bear’s birthday competition (Monday – Friday)
- Children in Need themed hamper raffle (Monday – Friday)
- Senior Boys leg-waxing (Wednesday and Thursday)
- Non-uniform day (Friday); and
- School Show (Friday – periods 5 & 6)

Fireworks
Remember, remember…enjoy fireworks safely this Guy Fawkes night. North Lanarkshire Council are holding four free fireworks displays in Airdrie, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld and Motherwell – so celebrate Guy Fawkes and keep safe.

Spooky Halloween at Calderhead
Lots of spooky activity at Calderhead High School for Hallowe’en. CalderRead Book Group and French Club joined forces in the library on Friday and heard some terrifying ghost stories in French and English. Then on Hallowe’en, the S1s enjoyed a party at the end of the day, organised by staff and senior pupils as part of their personal development class. A spooky time was had by all…
Outward Bound Leadership Course
Pupils and staff attended an Outward Bound Leadership course at the weekend in the Lakes.
The Outward Bound Trust is an outdoor learning charity that equips young people with social and emotional skills through learning and adventure in the wild. The Trust’s Ullswater & Howtown education centres are based on the beautiful shores of lake Ullswater.

Hallowe’en Disco
There will be a Halloween disco for S1 pupils periods 6 and 7 on Monday in the Assembly Hall.
Pupils will be able to get their faces painted for 50p and special FX make-up for £1.50 at lunchtime and can get changed into their costumes at the end of period 5.
As well as the disco, there will be games, a tuck-shop and a costume competition.

Positive Destinations and Developing the Young Workforce
50 S4 pupils attended the Skills Scotland Event at the SECC on Wednesday, 26 October 2016. All the pupils enjoyed the visit and came away with some useful information to help with their decision making for the future.
Skills Scotland events bring young people face-to-face with employers, training providers, further education colleges, universities, professional bodies and sector specific organisations to help young people to make better transitions and identify effective career pathways that will help them to move into sustainable employment.
New College Lanarkshire Open Evening
Parents and Careers Advisers have the opportunity to explore more than 800 courses in 90 minutes at an open evening at New College Lanarkshire.
The event will take place at the College’s Motherwell Campus on Thursday, October 27 from 5pm . For more information, click here.
Interhouse Cross-Country Competition
Calderhead High School pupils participated in the school’s first interhouse cross-country competition on 14th October 2016. Pupils were awarded house points for volunteering and finishing under a set time. 180 pupils volunteered to participate for their house.
The results were as follows:
- Joint 1st Burns/Wallace (72 points)
- 2nd Lochhead (66 points)
- 3rd Fleming (52 points)

Spooky Face Painting
The senior Personal Development class are busy organising an Hallowe’en Party for S1 pupils on Monday, 31st October.
The class were treated to face-painting lessons by Miss Reilly in preparation for the party.
