P7 Maths Challenge
Pupils from our cluster primary schools, Dykehead, Stane, Allanton, Alexander Peden and Kirk O’ Shotts Primary Schools, took part in the recent Maths Challenge at Calderhead High School. Well done to all the pupils who took part – we were impressed by their math skills. Competition was fierce and the winners were :
This was Kirk O’Shotts first time participating in the Challenge so a special congratulations to them.
The Challenge had four rounds: the puzzle round, cross number, stations and relay. Thank you to the S4/5 pupils for helping on the day especially Emma Gilfillan who helped organise and run the event.
Christmas Fayre
Christmas Fayre, 1 December 2018.
Our annual Christmas Fayre, will take place on Saturday, 1st December 2018 from 1pm. Come and visit Santa in his grotto and check out our stalls including raffle, tombola and refreshments – there will also be hotdogs, cakes, tea and coffee.

Shotts St Patrick’s Amateur Opera Group – Mary Poppins
Shotts St Patrick’s Amateur Opera Group’s Spring show will be a production of Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins’ (Junior) featuring children from Allanton, Alexander Peden (Harthill), Dykehead, St Patrick’s and Stane Primary schools and S1 and S5 pupils at Calderhead and St Aidan’s High Schools.
The group are looking to recruit children from P5 to S5 inclusive to audition for the cast for in this show at St Patrick’s Parish Centre at 5pm on Sunday, 2nd December 2018. They will be asked to sing a short version of “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”.

NL Leisure Easter Camps
After all the snow, it’s hard to believe that it will soon be Easter break. NL Leisure have released details of their sporting holiday programmes, which will be available across a variety of venues throughout the Easter school holidays.
There are sessions in Multi-sports, Football, Dance, Athletics, Musical Theatre, Tennis, Swimming, BMX and Golf.

Our Buses will be attempting routes as normal this morning. Take care on your way to the bus stops!
Council-operated ASN transport will run: drivers and escorts will be in touch with parents if there are localised issues.
Street Soccer
The Street Soccer programme is for 9-16 year olds and encourages young people to improve their health and wellbeing in their communities through football.
A new block of ten weeks is starting in Shotts on Tuesday, 27th February 2018 at Cove Crescent, Shotts, ML7 4JE

North Lanarkshire Diversiday
2018 has been designated the Year of Young People and February is LGBT History Month. A local MSYP (and Year of Young People Ambassador) has organised on LGBT Diversiday celebration, which will take place on Saturday, 24th February, at the Jim Foley Community Centre. This fun day will include music and arts and crafts and promises to be a fun day out.
Calderhead’s Got Talent
Calderhead High School will be holding a talent show on Monday, 18th December 2017 at 7pm to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity. This event has been organised by our senior pupils and many of our talented pupils will be participating. There will be singing, dancing, bagpipes, and much more – it’s an event no to be missed!
Tickets priced at £2 are available from the school office.
Pupils are also encouraged to wear Christmas jumpers to school on Tuesday (19th December) in exchange for £1 to raise funds for the charity.
Art
S3 pupil, Jaydn McGowan, was awarded this month’s Artist of the Month with his excellent illustrations from the world of Harry Potter.
