Registration of infant beginners in Primary School 2020/2021

Children who attain the age of 5 years between 1 March 20220 and 28 February 2021 should be registered for Primary School education during the week commencing Monday, 13 January 2020

Parents should take their children to the appropriate local primary school during that week at the times(s) designated by the school concerned.  Birth certificates and current council tax notice must be produced.

Information for parents about the enrolment of children in schools and details of placing request procedures, including early entry requests may be obtained from any school or by using the contact details in the ‘contact us’ box.

Choosing a school booklet can also be downloaded from the Scottish Government websitewww.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2010/11/10093528/0

Parents who wish to defer entry for their child to Primary School and who wish to apply for an additional year of part time pre school education should register their child for school as described above and complete the deferred entry application form which can be obtained from the Primary School.

Enquiries regarding Deferred Entry should be directed to the Head of Establishment in the first instance.

After enrolment we familiarise our new entrants with school through our St.Serf’s Pre Entrant Programme. Each child receives a personal invitation to come along to school in May. The children enjoy a programme of activities and become familiar with the school. At the final session of our Induction programme in June, the children meet with their Primary 1 teacher and future classmates while parents meet with the Head Teacher to discuss this important transition to primary school.

From their first week in school our new entrants are assigned a “buddy” from our Primary 6, who will keep a special watchful eye on them, help familiarise them with the playground and the school buildings, see that they have their playtime snack and generally be around until they are settled and more independent.

Overall, the induction programme gives helps make the big step of starting school a little bit easier.
