World of Work

Primary 6 had lots of fun during world of work week. We had lots of visitors into school to tell us about their job. We spoke with a doctor, nurse, pe teacher and hotel staff, when they came into our class, and we got to ask them lots of questions. We also had fun speaking to people at the careers Fayre and got to try out some of their jobs. We also had the opportunity to research our dream job and find out the qualifications and skills that we would need.

Matthew – “I really enjoyed when the pe teacher came in because I really enjoy pe and liked what he talked about”

Mya – “I liked researching the qualifications I would need for my dream job”

Conor – “I liked when we went to the careers fayre in the hall and spoke to the golf instructor because he was nice and gave out leaflets with information”

Niamh – “I liked hearing about all the jobs and the skills they need. It was quite interesting to hear about different jobs I was unsure of”

Our new learning…

Primary 6 have been so busy working hard since they returned from the Christmas break.

This week we have been learning about Robert Burns and preparing for the Scottish event, we have been practicing our Scottish poem and song.

We began working on persuasive writing this week and have been developing our skills of using persuasive language to try and convince the reader, they were all great!

We have begun our new topic about the Scottish Parliament. We have been learning about laws and how they are made.

Here are some comments about our learning this week:

Dionne “I have got better at my Scottish poem and song this week”

Lewis “I feel more confident using friendly numbers during number talks”

Leona “I created a great painting this week of Charles Rennie MacKintosh rose picture”

Matthew “I really liked learning about how a law is passed in Scotland and the stages it goes through”

Olivia “I practiced passing the ball in tennis and have been getting better at it”

P6 bring pantomime to class…

We have been watching Christmas adverts as part of our media block for literacy. We were inspired by the advert ‘The Big Night’ and decided to create our own shows. Pupils worked in groups to create their own title for the show, wrote their own script and even made their own costumes and props. Everyone done great and the performances were super.

Primary 6 definitely have talent, well done!

Pupil Choice Lesson

Our star pupils over the last 4 weeks got to take the pupils choice lesson on Friday afternoon. They decided to teach the class how to create a winter image using finger painting. They selected appropriate colours for everyone to use and demonstrated some examples to the class.

You were all great teachers… well done!

Dissolving Experiment

Primary 6 have been learning about dissolving as part of their topic. This week we done an experiment to determine which materials dissolve and which don’t.

Thomas “We learned that soluble means that a material can dissolve”

Katie “I enjoyed the experiment and I am excited to do it again with warm water to see if it changes the results”

Emma “I really enjoyed the experiment and I learned which materials dissolve and which don’t”

Pupil Choice Lesson

The star pupils in primary 6 enjoyed being the ‘teachers’ and leading a ‘pupil choice’ lesson. They encouraged the class to paint a Halloween picture, focusing on blending colours. The ‘teachers’ ensured that everyone stayed on task and helped anyone who needed support.

Everyone seemed to have fun and the paintings look great.

Well done teachers!

Supermarkets

Primary 6 have been learning about money in maths and have been focusing on how to calculate the change you would receive when buying items and the importance of budgeting money. Pupils worked together to create their own shops and sell their items to one another. Everyone had great ideas and the advertising was great. We wish some of the shops were real!

Well done.

Pupils thoughts:

Jennie – “I thought all the shops had good offers on and everyone gave me the correct change”

Callum M – “The lesson was really fun and I learned how to greet people when entering my shop”

Dionne – “I liked doing the shops because I liked calculating peoples change”

Josh – “I learned how to persuade people to buy our items”
