Dreamweaver – Creating a website from scratch.

In today’s lesson we looked at creating a 3 page website from the beginning.

Here is what we did

  • Launch Dreamweaver and create a new page using the HTML 3 column liquid template
  • Change the centre heading and save it in a new folder called Football (or what ever the site is to be called), since this is our first slide we will call it index
  • Do the same for two more slide and name them Team and Score, you should then have all three pages as tabs
  • Go to the Index page and remove the text in the left side bar. Change the heading to “Contents” then insert a spry menu bar and set it for vertical
  • Your page should look something like this
  • Click on the blue are at the top of the spry menu bar and you should see the properties window change
  • Change the names in the menu bar so that they are the same as the names of the pages (hint use the text field)
  • Remove the unwanted pages by clicking on them and then clicking on the minus (-) sign above them.
  • Add hyperlinks to the menu items by creating links to other pages using the links field in the properties window. (Hint – use the browse/folder icon)
  • Save your index page and test the links using the browser preview.
  • You can now do the same to the other pages…
  • … or you can copy and paste the whole menu by clicking on the blue area at the top and going to edit->copy, then going to another page preparing the left side column and going to edit->paste.
  • Save all your pages and you can now start adding content.
