Weather

Primary 4 have been working on a weather topic this term and have been looking at many different types of weather. We have also been looking at weather symbols, weather forecasts, weather around the world, and comparing different types of weather. We have also made lapbooks and we finished creating these at the parent’s open event which we all really enjoyed. Lastly we did an experiment which allowed us to see the shape and form of a tornado, it was really exciting and we all got a turn of using a twirling technique with our hands to see the tornado form. For this experiment we used a jar, 3/4 filled with water, teaspoon of fairy liquid and a teaspoon of vinegar. We mixed this all together and this was our result.

Class Blog: Health Week

Primary 4 have been having loads of fun on Health Week. Every day we have walked, jogged or ran a Daily Mile together. We have designed a healthy snack which we are making on Friday, and we can’t wait. We have also been watching JumpStart Jonny videos everyday, and thinking and talking about ways we can be more active!

Sports Day was so much fun! There was three different types of race, flat out running, bean bag balance and hurdles. This was all on the High Schools pitches and it was very exciting. We all worked so hard! On Friday we all made a healthy snack after having a class competition to design it. We created Fruit N’ Veg kebabs, yum yum! We ♥ Health Week!

Check out our health week photos below 🙂

Pupil blog: Perfect Plants!

P4 Plants Blog by Exclamations Marks group (Gregor, Hannah M, Hannah Mac, Adrianna and Rishi)

On our new plants topic we have been learning about the parts of a flower or plant these are some of the parts. The first part is the roots the roots absorb water and nutrients from the ground. There is also the stem water up inside it. The flower attracts bees with its colour and scent. The flower also has different parts.

We have also dissected a tulip. We had a labelled sheet that we stuck the part of the tulip down that it said. Some of these pars are petals, ovule, stigma, anther and many more . We had lots of fun chopping parts out of the tulip. We learned about pollination and fertilisation.

This is how it works, for pollination the bee digs down in the flower for nectar and gets pollen all over it and when it goes to the next plant the pollen falls of. Fertilisation is when the pollen blows back out of the flower and makes new plants grow. That is how fertilisation and pollination work.

We have been very busy growing our petunias and tomato plants. Some people have been growing theirs behind the stage and others have been growing theirs in the maths cupboard, while others are growing them in the classroom. Lots of people have decided to grow theirs with no light and so far they are a bit floppy but they are ok. If you want to have a look we will put pictures on the blog and if you are in another class you can come and have a look.

We also made some dandelion flower paintings. First we made the green stem and the little leaves using a paint brush. Then we made a black circle on top of the stem and left it to dry. When it was dry we got some white paint and dipped our fingers in it and put our finger tips on the paper around the black circle to make the seeds. Some of us made some of the seeds float in the paper around the dandelion. It was so fun making our arty pictures!

Have a look at our lovely pictures below!

New topic – Plants!

P4 have started a brand new topic, all about plants! We have planted our own seeds which we are growing in different conditions to see how this effects growth. Some are in the classroom, some are kept behind our stage and one is inside our maths cupboard!

We have also been on a plant hunt, and learned about the different parts of plants and why they are important.
We will keep you updated on our new topic, and our baby seeds! Here are some photos of us planting our plants in our Co-op Learning Groups. We planted cherry tomato and Petunia seeds.
