P4 Judo

On Tuesday morning we were lucky to have a visitor during our gym time to teach us some things about Judo.

Holly, David and Erin K got flipped!!

We played on the mat with a rope and were trying to push people out of rope circle, first person to push the other person outside the rope was the winner.

We learnt the words for ‘go’ and ‘stop’ they were Hajime for go and Matte for stop.

We really enjoyed the lesson and would love to do it again!

New term in Primary 4

Since we have come back from the Christmas holidays we have been very busy on our first week back.

In literacy we are working on a new phoneme ‘oo’. We have been searching for different words with the ‘oo’ sound in them for example football. We have been working on a non-fiction block and have been learning the differences between non-fiction and fiction books.

In numeracy this week we have been working on division, we are getting so good at division we are now on division with remainders.

Our new topic for this term is Charles Rennie Mackintosh we are very excited to get started and find out lots about him and his work.

Miss O’Neil and Primary 4 🙂

Fun activities happening in P4

In literacy we done a newspaper article, we could pick either tornadoes or hurricanes. A lot of people chose tornadoes. We got to add some pictures to our work. We used a headline, a lead, a main body and a tail to help us structure our newspaper report.

In numeracy we have been learning our 4 times table and are moving on to our 6 and 9 times table. We have been working on multiplication and division and are all working very hard.

We have been working on some Christmas art work and have made some Grinch faces and reindeer faces. We used paper plates, coloured paper,  black pens, green and brown paint, brown paper, red pom pom and googly eyes. We all enjoyed this activity and have used our work to decorate the class!

From all of Primary 4 and Miss O’Neil 🙂

Our 3D robots

In primary 4 we have been learning about 3D shapes during maths time and we used the 3D shapes we collected to make 3D robots in groups.

I thought it was very fun putting together all of the recyclable materials to make our robot. – Benjamin

My favourite part was painting the robots because it was very fun. – Erin U

We thought of some ideas for making the faces for our robots. – Peyton and Marcus

I liked working together as a group and making the face for our robot. – Amy

We all were able to work together in groups and showed great team working skills here are some pictures to show our terrific work!!

Weather and Climate

We have been learning all about weather and climate today and want to share some of our thoughts 🙂

Climate is when we know about cold and hot temperatures around the world. – Erin

Weather can sometimes be dangerous and damage our things. -Holly

Weather can stop you from doing nice things. – Elli

Climate can tell us about the average temperature all year round in different countries. – Emma

The weather can affect our bodies and health. – Evie

Hand washing

We learned today that we must use soap when cleaning our hands. In our experiment we used cinnamon, Olive oil and water. By rubbing the cinnamon and oil together then tried to wash it off without using soap, it didn’t work – we definitely need soap!

Term 2

Our new topic this term is weather and we are really looking forward to finding out lots about it!

Our new topic in maths is shape and we have been looking at 2D and 3D shape this week and it is amazing how much we already know about all different kinds of shapes. We have learnt about vertices, faces and edges of 3D shapes and have enjoyed finding shapes around the school.

The Illustrators and Publishers both got new books this week and are really looking forward to reading them!!

Update in Primary 4

Our first topic in gym was gymnastics. We all enjoyed it.

It was fun and exciting, I managed to do a forward flip off of the horse! – Eva

It was enjoyable, I liked going on the monkey bars. – Holly

I enjoyed playing on the wall bars. – Ethan

Our topic was the human body and we did a very fun experiment! For our experiment we used bread, coca cola and a plastic sandwich bag. We added the bread in pieces into the plastic bag and then we poured coca cola into it drop by drop. We waited until the next day to see our results. This experiment was to show us how the digestive system works.

I got to pour some of the coke into the bag with the bread, I thought it looked disgusting! – Peyton

I thought it was very fun but very disgusting! – Benjamin

I thought it was very fun but disgusting because it looked like the digestive system. – Elli
