This term we are learning to:
Recite numbers, forwards and backwards,
Explore length, weight and capacity and use simple measure language to describe our findings,
Match objects using our own criteria and talk about what we are doing.
This term we are learning to:
Recite numbers, forwards and backwards,
Explore length, weight and capacity and use simple measure language to describe our findings,
Match objects using our own criteria and talk about what we are doing.
This term we are:
Measuring using a variety of everyday materials.
Matching and sorting items by shape, colour, size, and by using our own criteria.
Exploring symmetry in our environment.
This term we have been learning to:
Estimate in contexts of number and measurement using the appropriate language
Work out missing numerals in a number line.
Use comparative language to describe several items in terms of length, weight, height and capacity, explaining my findings to others (e.g. tall, taller, tallest – heavy, heavier, heaviest)
In Numeracy & Maths this term we have been learning to …
1. Recognise numbers.
2. Count forwards and backwards, even when stopping at starting at given points.
3. About money, how it is used and to recognise some coins.
4. Compare, sort, match, measure, describe and problem solve.
We have been learning to measure, compare and reason. We can describe and predict using measurement language; taller/smaller, longer/shorter, heavy/light, full/empty.
We have been learning about numbers and counting. We can compare amounts using language such as; more/a lot/most. We can say numbers in the correct order and we can count out objects. Some children know that the last number they say, tells them how many objects there are.
We read ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. Some strange things have been happening in or nursery.
First we found golden eggs in strange places.
We were curious to find out more … a letter arrived from the Giant. He asked us if we could help him to make his home more secure.
We made a plan.
We have been very creative. We worked together to construct a safe home for the Giant.
The children chose to use a challenge card to build a castle. They were able to persevere for a considerable time to measure, predict, solve problems, match shapes, compare size and balance objects. They then added extra security measures of their own…
“Bananas to make it slippy” Alexander
“Security cameras” Rosie
“A guard with a gun … a big huge wall” Lawson
“Ice-cream ti make it slippy” Ewan
“Lasers, they blind the bad guys in the eyes” Lawson
The children returned to – and added to- their project every day for over a week!
We have been looking for information on signs, labels and charts to helps complete a task.
Here we are following recipes for play-dough and baking.
We know the packet tells us what we need to do. We listened carefully to the instructions on the packs of the seeds while planting.
We have been learning to sequence numbers and understand that a number represents a quantity.
We know numbers are used for counting.
We can identify the numbers that come before/after.
Fun in the Snow. 🙂
We discussed the temperature and used our shoes, legs and sticks to measure how deep it was,.
We tried hard to make a snow man and snow angels!
