Crazy Hair Day
P6J have had a great time taking part in Crazy Hair Day, organised by our fabulous Parent Council. Just look at these imaginative and creative CRAZY hairstyles…

Poly Tunnel
P6J have been working hard in the poly tunnel alongside one of our generous parent helpers. Firstly they had to pick the last of this seasons fruits. They then removed all the old vegetation, ready for the new planting season. We even had an exciting visit from one of our pupil’s chickens. This allowed us to exercise many of our Meta Skills such as courage, listening, observation, questioning and judgment.
Attitude to Gratitude
As part of our mini topic, P6J have studied the moral story of The Ungrateful Tiger. We have collaborated together to create a P6 song about gratitude. All pupils worked incredibly well together to demonstrate fantastic lyrical awareness. Pupils then created a poster sharing what they are each grateful for. All pupils were able to describe what gratitude is and share an example of what they are grateful for. Pupils then put their artistic skills to the test to sketch a realistic tiger using pencil and follow a tutorial to create a cartoon tiger using pen. This allowed everyone to create a range of artistic effects using different mediums.
Renewable Energy and Sustainability
Through our Leadership Group and cross curricular learning, P6J have been exploring renewable energy sources. We have been experimenting with different ways to generate electricity and power motors. We have built a renewable power circuit, measured energy from limes and potatoes, powered motor cars with sustainable energy, looked in detail at the workings of a steam engine and used special equipment to measure wind and light in the outdoors.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
P6J have taken on the role of Eco Committee this year. As part of this, we take responsibility for promoting recycling. Here we are recycling used paper from each of the many classbases across the school. We have been learning about the importance of recycling, to help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill sites and consider ways paper waste can be reused, reduced and recycled.
ECO Committee Leadership @ Elderbank

Maths Week Scotland
Pupils have been enjoying taking their Numeracy and Mathematics into the outdoors. We have been identifying a variety of angles in our outdoor environment; acute, right, obtuse, straight and reflex angles. P6 have also been creating scaled drawings of the Titanic and her propellers using chalk, string and measuring tools.
We have also been exploring Mobius loops and strips to create sculptures and developing problem solving. In addition, P6 have been creating artwork inspired by Curves of Pursuit.
