October 2024
This month we welcomed in parent’s and carers to our classroom for an open afternoon. The children enjoyed showing their parent’s and carers the different sensory activities they experience in class.
They also have been investigating floating and sinking this month and exploring our school community.
Curriculum Outline CB9 Term 1 2024-25
August and September 2024
Classbase 9 have settled well into the new school year. They have been adapting to the school routine and getting settle with new staff and children. The children have enjoyed exploring The Colour Monster as our topic.
April
Classbase 9 enjoyed a sports session run by Active Schools in April. The children were given the opportunity to take part in different throwing activities which they all enjoyed.
We have also been looking at how we care for plants. The children enjoyed a trip to the polytunnel where the picked some vegetables. The next day we chopped the vegetables to make soup.
Finally the children have been exploring the local community. They have been using the ipad to take photos of their community and we are discussing these in class. They have also had time at the local park.
March
In March the children have been using digital technology to explore their topic of people who can help us. They have enjoyed creating word clouds and different pictures.
This month we have also welcomed parent’s in for our open afternoon where everyone enjoyed a woodland walk.
Finally, the children have been working hard on sequencing stories, identifying coins and exchanging money for items when visiting the shop.
February
In February we have looked at the different celebrations that occur including Chinese New Year, Shrove Tuesday and Valentine’s Day. The children have enjoyed learning about different traditions, exploring and making new foods and creating different art pieces.
This month they have continued to receive rebound therapy which they all look forward to each week. They have also received Boccia coaching from Young Leaders.
January
In January we have focused on weather as our topic. We have talked about the different weather and learned some new Makaton signs. The children have also created some wonderful pieces of art looking at texture and using different materials. They also made bird feeders which we placed in the community. Finally, they have investigated how the weather affects what we do and the clothes that we should wear.
Rebound therapy has also started in Supported Learning. The children in classbase 9 have really enjoyed their time on the trampoline and are gaining a lot from this experience.
December
This month the children have been working extremely hard when practising for their Christmas show. We have been focusing on learning the Makaton signs to go along with our song as well as playing different musical instruments.
The children have been enjoying a variety of different activities related to Christmas. They have been working on their fine motor skills to make spiral Christmas tree decorations and building elves. They have also been making chocolate snowmen and Christmas lights.
November
Classbase 9 have been exploring the farm for our topic this term. They have been investigating where animals live, what they eat and creating their own animals and farm. The children have enjoyed walks in our local community to look at the different plants in our area. We have talked about what plants need to stay alive and what we can do to help. Finally, we looked at bonfire night where we made chocolate sparklers and wrote about the noises that fireworks make.
October
This month we have continued to explore our Harvest and autumn topic. The children have enjoyed investigating what liquids make corn ‘pop’. They have also been collecting natural materials on our Autumn walks which they have used to create different art work. The children have all been enjoying their reading books and we are developing their ability to find information in their books.
September
Classbase 9 have settled well back into the school routine. We have been working on identifying our emotions and the children have enjoyed using playdough to explore this. In our outdoor learning we have been looking at measure focusing on different terminology including full and empty. Finally, the children have been learning about Harvest. They have enjoyed exploring our Harvest tuff tray whilst we explore food and different songs.
