Please remember that we are contactable through your class Twitter pages and via the school email. To contact us privately (Direct Message) through Twitter, just look for the envelope icon. You need to go on to the class page first and then there is an envelope at the bottom of your phone screen or at the side of your screen on a tablet.  Please also remember that the Home Learning Packs are on the main class webpage.

This weeks suggested learning activities are below. Again, there are tasks for different curricular areas. These can be completed at your own convenience and are to support and embed your knowledge and previous learning.

This week your starters are triangle and colour based. Can you count all the triangles in the picture? Click on the link to have a go. Count Triangles  Another activity that you could do to warm up your brain is Colours vs Words! Click on the link to open the fun Test. Basically, what you try to do is say the names of the colours you see, not the colours you read. Go down the different lists as fast as you can. It might be fun to let others in your house try this too!  Colours vs Words

Maths

This week it might be fun to put your accurate measuring skills to good use. Can you help with some baking or cooking by weighing all the ingredients? Baking requires very accurate measuring and the best bit is there’s a reward for your efforts at the end 😉

We’re sure that you are missing your 5 minute maths, so why not try one or both of the Ultimate Times Table Tests.  Ultimate Times Tables Challenge 1  Ultimate Times Tables Challenge 2

There is also a Sumdog challenge running this week. It is based on ‘Time’ and your ‘Tables’. It starts at 9am Monday and finishes at 3pm Friday. Good Luck!

Writing

How did you get on with the writing from last week? Did you manage to complete your plan? This week, try to use your plan to write a report. Remember to use connectives such as “in addition” and “also” to join your sentences and try to have at least 4 detailed sentences in each sub-heading (one for each fact that you are writing about). When you are writing your report, remember to use present tense (happening now) and to use third person (no “I” or “we”). I’m sure you recall us harping on about this a lot in term one!

Remember, if you are feeling confident, try to write a conclusion. A conclusion states your opinion about the title of your report. E.g. If your report was on dogs, your conclusion might begin by saying something like: “Dogs are very friendly and intelligent animals. If they are looked after properly and given the love and attention that they deserve then they will be a loyal friend forever.”

Reading

For your novel reading this week we would like you to find 5 words to CLARIFY. Find the definitions from a dictionary (paper or online) and see if you can use them in your own sentences. If they are tricky spellings, then use one of our active spelling activities from the grid in the “Second Level Learning Pack” to practise them.

We have some reading comprehensions for you this week; they are like the ones we do in class. ‘Sky Hawk’ is the more challenging one and ‘Pug of the Frozen North’ is easier. Please choose the one that you feel able to complete independently.  Sky Hawk  Pug of the Frozen North

Health and Wellbeing

This week we would like you to try some YOGA. You can use the cards to learn a variety of yoga poses. If you try and fit this in a few times a week then your flexibility will really improve! Please send photos of your poses; looking forward to seeing a few “downward dogs” or “warriors”!  Yoga pose cards[5140]

Following on from our work on ‘comfortable’ and ‘uncomfortable’ feelings we would like you to listen to the story “The Huge Bag of Worries” by Virginia Ironside. You can find a few versions of this on YouTube, I used the following link and then complete the following worksheets. The Huge Bag of Worries you tube  Covid 19 Worries worksheet[5139]

Art

We have had a look at the weather forecast for this coming week and we have decided to be optimistic and take a chance that the sun is going to shine! This week for art we would like you to become inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy. He creates a lot of outdoor art, much of which is designed not to last very long. If you wish to get a little more information on our artist, please click on the attached link and it will tell you more. https://www.twinkl.co.uk/search?term=andy+goldsworthy+powerpoint

Your task this week is to create art that will only last as long as the sun takes to dry it up again. (This could be a lot of fun!) Lie down on the ground or stand against a wall and make an interesting shape with your body, then ask someone to sprinkle you with water. When you stand up, or walk away, your art/silhouette will be left behind. You can repeat this limitless times, making different pieces of art each time you try. (You could even get other family members to join in if you like…) If you don’t want to get wet, can you arrange some household items in an interesting shape and create silhouette art out of them? Please remember to send us pictures or videos if you try this out!

Music

Mrs Allan and Mrs Taylor have kindly sent us some musical activities for you to enjoy.

Mrs Allan has shared this activity sheet and thought that the highlighted part might be good for Primary 5 recorders, but this could be for any of you who have a musical instrument.  Musical Activities

Mrs Taylor has shared the following instructions for ‘Body Beats’.

Watch on YouTube, search for: “Stomp Live – Part 3 – just clap your hands” (If you would like to you could also watch “Stomp Live – Part 2 – Matchsticks”)

Do, again on YouTube: “Body Beats – online body percussion session, Monday 23/3/20”. This is taken by Ollie Tunmer (I’ve spoken about him before) who is a music teacher, one of the original Stomp cast members and who I did a really enjoyable course with last year. This was recorded live, but you have the advantage of being able to pause it and practice if you’re finding it a bit tricky in parts. It takes about 20 minutes to do and you can do it as many times as you like……have fun!!!

Have a great week and remember to post some photos. It is lovely when we hear from you.

Stay safe.
