Hello parents, carers and pupils,
As promised at our last class meeting, we are continuing with themed activities and as the children have requested, we have chosen ‘Superheroes’ this week! So just like last week all the learning activities are based on superheroes! Thank you to everyone who has been communicating with us via Glow email, Twitter and MS Teams. Please remember this is only a guide and our message is to do what you can, when you can. There is no expectation to complete all the activities as we are fully aware that everybody’s circumstances are different during these challenging times.
Superheroes – Art Activity
Pretend you are a new superhero. Design your own superhero outfit. Think of all the different things you might need to help you with your superpowers. There are some ideas jotted below to help you become more inspired!
Does it have a cape, a mask, a helmet, boots or gloves?
What are the main colours going to be?
Do you have a logo – like the bat symbol for Batman or the S for Superman?
Does it do anything special, like can it put a force field around you? Or does it give you the ability to breathe underwater? Can it detect bad guys for up to a mile around you? Can it shoot lasers? Is it resistant to fire, bullets and explosions? Will it help you heal at three times your natural speed of healing?
Superheroes – Writing Task
This week we would like you to write a newspaper interview. First choose a superhero that you know well. It can be any superhero of your choice. Try to set out your piece of writing like a newspaper with a headline. Answer the following questions to help you write your newspaper article (remember to be as imaginative as you like):
• Who is the super hero and where is he or she from?
• What is his or her super power(s)?
• Where does he or she live?
Possible Questions to ask your Superhero
• What is your favourite food?
• What has been the most daring rescue you have taken part in?
• What do you like to do in your spare time?
Superheroes Reading Comprehension
Ever wondered who created our famous comic book superheroes? Read the attached passage about Stan Lee and Marvel Comics and answer the questions to test your understanding.

Superhero Rounding.
This week we would also like you to practise rounding numbers. Complete the Superhero themed rounding sheet. Remember the rhyme ‘1 to 4 hit the floor, 5 to 9 climb the vine’ to help you. Do you want an extra challenge? Use playing cards or dice to create 3 or 4 digit numbers. Write your numbers down, then practise rounding your numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.

Heinemann Active Maths and Sumdog
This week we have set a Superhero Maths Challenge on Sumdog. This is fun class challenge and will help you practise a range of mathematical skills and knowledge. Please log on and complete this challenge. If you experience any issues accessing Sumdog or Heinemann Active Maths, please contact us via Twitter, Glow Email, or our MS Teams page.
Superhero Health and Wellbeing
A hero is characterized as ‘a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model’ – Oxford Dictionary. This week we would like you to think about heroes in your family and local community. What makes them heroic in your eyes? What are their personal qualities and skills? We would also like you to think about your own special qualities and skills that make you special. Select at least one activity to complete from the attached Superhero Health and Wellbeing grid.
Article 15 – Definition and Activities
Definition – Article 15 Freedom of Association
Every child has the right to meet with other children and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights.
Thinking Question -What is needed for you to enjoy the right to get together and join up with other children and young people? Discuss this question with a family member.
Select one of the following activities to complete:
1. Think about a group or club you are part of. Create a poster or leaflet to encourage other people to join.
2. Imagine you are meeting a new child for the first time – it could be in a club or in your class. Make a list of questions you would like to find out to get to know them. What would you tell them about yourself?
3. Make a list of 5 children that you would like to get in contact with. Write them a letter or video call them this week to find out how their week has been.
