Tomintoul Small School Olympics

The whole school went to Tomintoul to do the Small School Olympics on the 11th of June and we had lots of fun. We were also joined by lots of other schools from the Moray area.

First, the whole school got on the bus and it took a long time to get there.

Next, we got to Tomintoul and we went in to the school, put our bags down and went into groups where we took part in differant activities. Each pupil took part in two activities: taekwon-do, kickboxing, football, rugby, archery and mountin biking.  We all received a medal for taking part.

Then, we had lunch in Tomintoul Square where we saw lots of buses and police motor bikes. They were there because the Olympic torch was about to arrive in Tomintoul. It was very exciting because there were lots of people there and lots of exciting things to see and hear, including a man that kept jumping on springs.

The main event was seeing the torch. The girl that carried the torch was called Ciara Ennis, she is 14 years old and she lives in Huntly. She carried the Olympic torch because she has has raised lots money for charity.

Finally, we had the sprints and the relay races back at Tomintoul Primary School. Inveravon came 3rd in the relay and then we had the medal ceremony.

We were all very tired from all the excitment of the day. Neil commented, “I thought it was amazing to see the torch live.”  Henry thought, “It was great that we got to take part in lots of different sports, but it was a bit of a shame that the torch ran past so fast as is was difficult to see.”

Leading Our Learning

On 12th June 2012, a camera crew came to record us leading our learning.  The crew consisted of Sally Fulton, the lady who came to inspect our school in Novemeber last year and a filming expert, Yvonne.  They came beacuse we got an ‘Excellent’ in our inspection report and they wanted to make a dcoumentary about our learning that will be made into a DVD and released to other schools in Scotland in September.

The crew were here the whole day and while they were here, they filmed us taking part in Eco Schools, weeding and planting lettuces with Mrs Lawson, as well as interviewing pupils about their Progress and Achievements booklets, members of staff including Mrs Smith and Mrs Ducrocq about us writing our own reports and two parents about our learning.

Being filmed was really exciting and we really enjoyed the day.  It’s amazing to think that soon, other children from around Scotland will be able to see us at our school in Inveravon.  Sam said, “It was very hard not to keep looking at the camera while we were being filmed, but I am very proud of our small school.”

Sports

All this term we have been practising a dance called a the mascot dance for the Tomintoul Olympics and we know all of the moves. There are paralympics, Olympics and partner moves and we will be doing it with 300 other pupils at the Tomintoul Mini Olympics on 11th June. Pamela Younie and Mrs Mitchell have been helping us learn the dance and we are all having a lot of fun!

Jubilee Garden Party

On  Thursday 31st May Inveravon hosted a Jubilee Garden Party to celabrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  We all worked hard to make sure the day was a success, but the only thing we couldn’t plan for was the weather.  Unfortunately, it rained on the day and we held our Garden Party inside the school hall.  But we all still had a lot of fun!  We invited the whole community, some of us made speeches on the day, we planted a Time Capsule that we hope people will dig up in 60 years time, held a quiz on the Queen and her life over the last 60 years and served lots of yummy food and drinks.
