S1 Learning for sustainability – IDL STEAM

We will be taking part in a practical method to overtake the aims of the World’s Largest Lesson.  

As a department, we are focusing more on sustainability when designing products. The idea and concept of the 4Rs is very important, watch this video which explains how one company uses these principles .  Our S1 pupils will take part in an Inter Disciplinary Learning (IDL) opportunity and complete the  Bird Feeder Water Bottle Project. The learning will take place simultaneously across four other departments/subjects linked to STEAM (Science, Technical, Art and Mathematics

Learning Intentions & Success Criteria

  • Tasks 1 –Create a bird feeder by reusing a water bottle  Discusses sustainability and environmental impact of sourcing and using different materials.
  • Task 2 – Plastic Facts & Figures – Understand more about t sustainability and sourcing of materials that we use in society.

  • Numeracy I can solve practical problems by applying my knowledge of measure, choosing the appropriate units and degree of accuracy for the task and using a formula to calculate area or volume when required
  • Literacy –Discusses sustainability and environmental impact of sourcing and using different materials.

In S1 we will investigate  Global Goal No. 13 Climate Action
