Forth Valley College – STEM Nursery, Primary and Secondary outreach.

The grant provided by Education Scotland has allowed the STEM outreach team to deliver exciting, hands on STEM experiences to schools throughout the Forth Valley, and to create a huge repository of online teaching and learning materials, all matched to Curriculum for Excellence. With a focus on environmental and sustainability issues, this is run as The Famous Four Save the Planet and is delivered on a Tuesday and Thursday throughout the academic year.

The team has also facilitated a number of Knowledge Exchange or ‘Pick and Mix’ events for practitioners from early learning and childcare settings and primary schools. The events feature a market stall showcasing the Technobox (Electrical Engineering for hire), STEM in a bag – five experiments to take away – and help in navigating the activities from the Moodle page. The team also demonstrate the experiments from the The Famous Four Save the Planet programme that runs on a Tuesday and Thursday.

The project recently won the College Development Network award for ‘Essential skills’ more on this here.
