A Decluttered sySTEM

The purpose of these resource is to support practitioners in making connections across the curriculum using STEM as a vehicle to enhance teaching and learning experiences.

This has been developed in response to practitioners and local authority officers asks for support navigating the breadth of policy and national priority drivers for educational change including the curriculum improvement cycle. It is a tool to support conversation, planning and discussion when looking towards a future orientated curriculum and a streamlined approach to curriculum design.

These activities should be viewed as useful starting points and suggestions and they are in no way prescriptive or bound by level. Practitioners can simplify or add further challenge to suggestions to suit the age and stage of their learners. Some links to resources throughout this document have been selected to exemplify the context, there will be other resources you may already have or know of that could also be used.

To navigate the educational landscape of policy and priorities, the process planning sheet for creating this resource is included in the image below. This image could be used as a framework to plan your own approach to a contextualised STEM learning opportunity for learners.

We would also really like to hear from you if you have used the resource, planning sheet or if you have created your own version of ideas you would like to share. Also, if you would would like to discuss this approach with us and need support or guidance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch STEM@educationscotland.gov.scot
