New Digital Resources

This term the children have been exploring and enjoying a variety of digital resources kindly donated to us by our families and the community. These new additions have inspired lots of imaginative role play! The children have been pretending to create work on the laptops, chat with friends, and even speak to their favourite characters as they act out different real-life scenarios. Lots of the children have enjoyed tapping away on the laptop keyboard. We added a TV to our 3-5 room home corner. Some children shared what they like to watch at home on the TV and we created a TV guide and pictures to add to the area so the children can change the channel to display what they would like to watch.

Exploring Maps

In line with our current literacy planning and October’s UNCRC focus, which surrounds World Mental Health day, we looked at the benefits of using the outdoors, walking and moving our bodies as a method of boosting our mood 😃

We used the promethium board and Google Maps to locate the nursery and trace routes digitally using the board pen to some known places we could walk to opposed to taking the car. 🚙

We explored how to access the internet by identifying the google chrome logo and were introduced to using the keyboard, learning that the letters we typed sent information to the computer 💻

Festival of Winter Walks

To celebrate the Festival of Winter Walks underpinned by our UNCRC focus on play, outdoors and being active and to learn about different technologies we took a morning walk around the school grounds. During this we identified many forms of technology from fire alarms, speakers, electric gate openers and electric car charging points and took pictures of these on our iPads to document them.

During this we spoke about the benefits of being outdoors with children voicing the benefits and playing in the natural environment around them.

Litter Picking

In line with our Eco focus this month – waste management and our UNCRC articles 31 – right to rest, leisure and play and article 24 – the right to clean, healthy and sustainable environment.

Some of the children went on a litter pick. We discussed the importance of why we shouldn’t litter and what happens to our environments when people litter. The children worked as a team to clear up the litter.

Friendship Garden

At Largs Early Years one of our upmost priorities is to create nurturing and secure environments that allow children to create and sustain relationships with their peers and others. 👩🏼‍🤝‍👩🏿👨🏻‍🤝‍👨🏽 We support children to build the foundations for this through daily interactions, our PATHS programmes, daily check ins and reference to our SHANARRI characters. 🐻🦊🤖🐝🍏👾🐘. This helps to instill the 4 capacities for all our children within the curriculum for excellence – confident individuals, successful learners, responsible citizens and effective contributors ⭐

To support our UNCRC articles 15&19 that underpins ‘anti-bullying week’ we discussed what it means to be a friend, voicing each others qualities and how this makes each other feel. To express our thoughts on this we made friendship stones for someone we think of as a friend 👩🏼‍🤝‍👩🏿👨🏻‍🤝‍👨🏽❤️

The children located an area in our garden to place their stones which is now a space to highlight and celebrate our unique characteristics, attributes, and is a symbol of how loved we are.

Rag Bag Collection October 2025

To help support our eco schools work we will be having a collection for Rag Bag in October. If you are having a clear out for Christmas or there are clothes that no longer fit, then please bring them to the centre by Monday 27th October. They will be collected on Wednesday 29th October. This helps us raise some funds for other eco activities. Thank you in advance for your support.
