School Transition

Early Years to School

All families should enrol their child/children during the registration time. When registration is open this will be displayed in the local press, ‘North Ayrshire Council’ Facebook page and we will send out a notice on seesaw.

The centre has links with the two campus primary schools and will work in partnership to ensure a smooth transition for all our children. Information will also be exchanged via the transition records, when children begin P1.

This is to ensure a smooth transfer to primary school and allows for progression and continuity.

Any school transition information will be sent directly by your child’s chosen school and if you have any questions regarding transition plans, then please contact your chosen school. Transition with the schools on campus usually begin after the April holidays.

Links with the campus:

  • Throughout the year we meet with Largs Primary and St. Mary’s growing together group. This is an after school programme they both run. We work alongside some of the teachers within the schools and older pupils to create bird feeders and plant etc.
  • UNCRC Campus Wide Events – Throughout the year we come together with both primary schools and Largs Academy to enrich and embed the UNCRC – children rights – articles, ensuring each child has access to opportunities, provocations and spaces to exercise these rights. Collaborations we have done previously are a karate session, making bird feeders, dance event, world of work, EYC visiting the schools for a play, litter picking the campus. We will continue to build up links with the campus.
  • Largs Primary pupil council hold a ‘Lucky Tucky’ on the first Friday of every month. LEYC pupils are invited along. If any of our children wish to visit the tuck shop its 20p for a piece of fruit or snack.

Here are some examples of the facilities we use in the campus which aids transition:

  • Every Thursday AM & Friday PM (& after 3pm Monday-Friday) we have access to the school gym halls.
  • For our Christmas & Summer concerts we use the larger gym hall for our performance space.
  • Every Tuesday AM & (after 3pm Monday-Friday) we have use of the campus library. Sometimes on a Tuesday St Mary’s children will join us and read to our pupils.
  • We will often use the school playground and trim trail, which the children love getting to use.
