International Polar Bear Day

🐻‍❄️International Polar Bear Day🐻‍❄️

Linking with our ECO topic this month around ❗️climate action❗️today we learned about polar bears, where they live and what they need to survive. This was also relevant as it is ‘International Polar Bear Day’.

We explored how climate change is affecting polar bears and their icy homes. We talked about how polar bears live in very cold places and rely on sea ice to hunt, rest and travel. When the ice melts, it makes it harder for them to survive.

In our water tray, we used ice and small polar bear figures to investigate what happens when ice melts. The children observed closely as the ice slowly disappeared and noticed how the polar bears had less space to stand on. This helped us begin to understand how rising temperatures can impact animals in the Arctic.

💬 We had some fantastic discussions about:

🧊What we already know about polar bears
🧊 Why the ice melts
🧊What we can do to help, e.g recycling, walking instead of driving and looking after our world.
