Artworks Scotland ‘Placements in Practice’ seminar

‘Placements in Practice’ seminar

ArtWorks Scotland is pleased to invite you to ‘Placements in Practice’, a day focusing on student artists learning in a range of social contexts.

Join us in exploring good practice in student placements, and the role this experience can play in preparing artists to work in participatory settings.

The event is aimed at both Higher and Further Education institutions, and cultural organisations, and will create a space to:

·  share learning from live projects

·  have a critical cross-institutional and organizational dialogue

·  discuss the ‘recipe’ for good practice – with a view to developing guidance.

The morning will include contributions from The Sage Gateshead, Motherwell College, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, who will share their experiences of projects that have taken place in prisons, health settings, schools, and wider communities. The afternoon will focus on good practice and guidance.

Lunch will be provided.

The event is free, but places are limited, so please book early.

Project Co-ordinator opportunity with Fèis Rois

Fèis Rois is offering an exciting opportunity for a young person aged 16 – 20 to join its team as a Project Co-ordinator.

The successful candidate will be offered a 1-year full-time contract at Fèis Rois, as well as having the opportunity to work towards a nationally recognised qualification in Community Arts Management through the Creative Apprenticeship scheme.

The apprentice will have the opportunity to work on a number of Fèis Rois projects, including residential courses, the Ceilidh Trail and the national Fèis Rois schools programme.

The successful candidate will also receive numerous professional development opportunities, including:
– Mentoring from experienced members of the Fèis Rois staff team;
– First aid and child protection training from external providers;
– In-house CPD opportunities, including social networking, IT, and creative courses.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the arts and who has an interest in traditional music. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a small team.

Salary: £8,500 – £12,500
Term: Fixed Term (One Year)

College Development Network has posted news of a forthcoming conference which will bring together college staff, employers and key stakeholders in an event which focuses on the importance of partnership working to ensure the best outcomes for students and employers.

For some time colleges have identified the need to engage more closely with industry, and employer engagement is now recognised as a key element of curriculum design, development and delivery.

This conference offers a rich mix of keynote speakers, strategists, successful partnerships, curriculum leaders and willing and engaged employers. The event itself will be interactive, varied and informative, and will give delegates an opportunity to reflect on their employer engagement strategy and how they can learn from the content of the conference.

UK Safer Internet Centre – E-safety briefing events

After holding a major E-safety Live event in Edinburgh last year, the UK Safer Internet Centre is coming back to Scotland to deliver free e-safety briefings in May. The briefings are aimed at teachers and all other professionals working with children and young people, such as, social workers, early years workers, youth workers, police officers, etc.

The sessions are two hours long and have information around internet safety –  new online technologies and risks, updates on available tools and resources, latest research and developments.

Fuselab – an immersive learning experience for 16-20 year olds

Fuselab is an out of this world experience for 16-20 year olds at Edinburgh’s
Summerhall in which they’ll plan the future of an uninhabited world.

Fuselab is looking for 80 innovative and creative minds – scientists, artists and
engineers – to help develop a sustainable way of life, free from the
constraints of the systems and structures we live by here on Earth.

Participants will be asked to challenge their thinking through workshops, skills sessions, talks and games; collaborating to design, prototype and test ideas.

Applications for both sessions close on Wednesday 8 May.

40 participants will be selected per session.

Design a book cover competition

UK primary schools are invited to take part in the Baillie Gifford Design a Book Cover competition. The competition theme is designed to bring out what children are interested in and what stimulates their imagination and curiosity. The overall concept of the book cover can be completely individual to each pupil or the concept can be based on a topic that they are currently studying.

There are two entry categories: P1-P3 and P4-P7. The winning designs from each category will be reproduced and displayed at the 2013 Edinburgh International Book Festival, which takes place from 10 to 27 August 2013.

The deadline for entries is Monday 1 July 2013

V&A at Dundee Teachers’ Survey

The V&A at Dundee invites primary and secondary school teachers from across Scotland to take part in a survey which will help them shape their education programme for the organisation.

V&A at Dundee’s aim is to offer a programme which will encourage interdisciplinary practice and learning, covering a wide range of Curriculum for Excellence areas.  For example, a session looking at Hollywood Costume might discuss the use of costume design to represent particular faiths and debate issues of potential stereotyping, or how people of different faiths are represented in film genres. A session looking at Green Design would explore moral issues about climate change and sustainability.
