Festival 2014 performance opportunities!

Festival 2014 Logo
The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games aren’t just about the top class sporting action, there’s a whole host of cultural activity too and this is the chance for groups from your school to get involved…

Festival 2014 is a huge Games Time celebration in Glasgow running alongside the sporting action. It will transform the city from 19 July to 3 August with an invigorating mix of entertainment, culture and enjoyment filling the streets, spaces and stages of Glasgow. The highlight of Festival 2014 will be three specially created Live Zones, one at Glasgow Green, one in the Merchant City and a third at Kelvingrove Bandstand. Here you will be able to experience the buzz of the Games, watch live sport on big screens, participate in arts and sports, and watch music, dance, comedy and film in outdoor stages and spaces specially designed to put you at the heart of the Games experience, at the heart of the city.

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been working with organisers to offer outstanding performance-based groups from the education sector the opportunity to showcase their talent in Glasgow during the Games. If you have groups in your school or centre who excel in music, dance or theatre then please read the supporting brief and complete the expression of interest form attaching any supporting media (e.g sound clip/video/pictures) and submit electronically to the address contained within no later than 5pm on Friday 4th April.

The opportunity is open to groups from primary, secondary and special schools, colleges and universities in Scotland.

  1. As part of Renfrewshire council I have an intergenerational choir called “singing through the ages” and would love to be part of the commenwealth games, would this be something that you would take into concideration?

  2. Hi Christopher Barr gave me the link to see if the Glasgow Youth Choir would be able to take part in any of these events for the Commonwealth Games? I know the info said schools & college groups, but would it also be possible for a choir such as ours, when our members come from all over the city, to take part? We have been involved in many prestigious events, including singing for the Queen at her Diamond Jubilee celebrations in George Square, and would live to be involved in the performances going on at this time if it would be possible. I can send you more information about the choir if you need more. Thanks very much.

  3. Hi Audrey,

I’m fairly sure that this opportunity would be open to you. I’ll also pass on your details to colleagues responsible for the festival programme.

    Regards,

    Steven

  4. Hi Sally,

As the choir is a mixture of ages, I don’t think this is the right opportunity, but there are others available – I’d recommend that you have a look at http://www.bigbigsing.org/whatson/song-stages, as they’re looking for choirs of all types to take part in their project and perform at Games Time.

    Hope this helps,

    Steven

  5. Hi Gerry,

I don’t think this is an opportunity for your group, but I will forward on your enquiry to colleagues responsible for the cultural programme – it may be that they have a suitable route available.

    Regards,

    Steven

  6. I have a community wind band and would love to be get them involved with something at the games if possible. It is varied in age though most are between 14-25 with only a small number of performers older than this. Do you know if we would be able to be involved in any of the performances. we have taken part in various festivals both in Scotland and nationally at British championships too. We are based in and around the Strathclyde area.
    Best wishes

  7. Hi Diane,

I will forward on your details to colleagues in the cultural team; if they have a suitable opportunity then I’m sure they’ll be in touch.
