‘The Fridge Page’ from Wyndford Nursery…

Week begin. 20.4.20

Hello everyone,

I know at this stage many of you are beginning to feel a wee bit wearied with the current day to day routine which comes with our current situation. However, the thing we are all holding on to is that it is keeping us all safe and protecting our NHS. Within my own family, we have found it helpful just to focus on one day at a time. Looking ahead to a whole week can make things feel a bit sluggish. We are still sticking by our FIRST/ NEXT/ THEN each morning and the same again for the afternoon and evening. I have been sharing with some of you that that this time has shone a spot light on how long my three big children’s legs have got…as I hear myself constantly telling them to tuck them away whilst all trying to share living space!

Need to know…

You will have understood by now from the Group call message received, that due to matters out with our control, The Community Pantry  and take away packed lunch service is no longer able to operate. Given that we had sourced funding to facilitate the Pantry for one year in the first instance, we have agreed with Fareshare that they redirect our delivery of groceries each week to St Gregory’s Church Community Pantry. 130 Kelvindale Road.  It operates Mon- Fri 10-12noon. You should ring the doorbell of the chapel house. I would advise that you arrive for the Pantry opening in order to secure a share. I have spoken to Father Allan Cameron who is very happy to ensure a share of food for nursery families. On arrival you should use code word- ‘nursery’ as this will ensure that the groceries are suitable for young families. You will need to indicate if there are particular foods that you do not eat i.e. beef, pork, chicken, fish. I hope that this serves well as a positive alternative. In addition, please also use the link on the nursery Twitter page to access Wheatley Group’s free ‘Eatwell Service’ during this time. This includes access to emergency packages.

In conversation…

I hope that you continue to find the weekly contact with your child’s Key Persons a positive source of support, alongside the invitations to engage in playful challenges. However, nothing is more important at this time than supporting each other’s wellbeing and it is understood that you will use the support as best suits your family. If there is anything that you are worried about that we can perhaps help you with, or, put you in contact with someone, please link in with your child’s Key Person. If there is anything which you would prefer to have a direct conversation about, please call the nursery and leave a voicemail and I will return your call at the earliest possibility.

Nursery charges– For any families who are billed by GCC for additional hours beyond their child’s entitlement of 1140 hrs, all nursery charges were stopped from 23 March and you should not be receiving bills.

Placing requests- The council are sending letters communicating the decisions for all placing requests in the coming few weeks. Similarly, letters will be sent to families to indicate the outcome where an  alternative pathway has been requested.

Summative reports-The high quality invitations which your child experiences during their time at Wyndford Nursery is currently being summarised by their Key Persons within a short report, supported by stories which educators have written about your child as a learner. These will offer a very personal ‘window’ into your child’s time at nursery and will be shared with you later in the term, for comment, before being passed on to school as part of our transition information sharing.

Transition to P1-We are currently in communication with our primary colleagues to plan for how we will share information about our children moving on to school. Fortunately, many of our colleagues have already had the opportunity to visit the nursery earlier in Term 2, prior to closure. Where individual schools share materials with us to support children and families in transition, we will post them directly to your child’s See Saw. Please speak to your child’s Key Persons if you have any specific questions/ worries in relation to transition and they can pass these on to myself. We enjoy very good relationships with our primary colleagues and I will do my best to find answers to your questions as part of my regular contact with Primary Heads.

What I can reassure you of is that as soon as we have any updated information, we will of course share it with you. It would be good advice to keep checking Glasgow City Council- Schools and Learning- glasgow.gov.uk

‘Being me…being amazing’-I just want to take this time to express a very big thank you to everyone- our children, our families, our staff team, our nursery friends for being your amazing selves during this time. In everything in life, there is always a silver lining and during this time we continue to see the real strength to be celebrated on our doorstep- our great community.

Learning through play…

At present, we have been given the gift of time with our family. As parents/ carers, we will never have quite the same invitation again, to be alongside our children in their learning.  While this time, naturally brings its challenges for families, there is also a great opportunity just now, to establish good habits as a family, that will go on to help your child as a learner beyond this current period. It is important that our children understand the adults around them to be learners too. (My own children are only now realising just how much I need them to support me in my learning in relation to technologies!!)

In the words of George Bernard Shaw- We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing’.

Keep safe and well everyone x
