Storyteller Time!

Along with the pupils in P4, 5 and 6, we took part in a fantastic storytelling experience presented by Gauri from AWAZ on Thursday. We loved it! Gauri told us several multi lingual stories, one of which involved a man on a journey to make magic stone soup!

Arisha, Malikah and Rowan all found the experience interesting and entertaining while Kirtan said it made her feel calm and relaxed!

A very good way to spend our afternoon in St. Albert’s!

Primary 7 are buzzing…

Aisha and Areeba N got their 50 dojo points! For their special privilege, they chose to have a yummy stir fry with friends. Here is a photo of them tucking in to the delicious meal …

Areeba N couldn’t resist tucking in!

Another exciting event got the whole class buzzing this week… Miss Hunter’s (Our Class 1 Teacher) Dad is a Beekeeper and he was kind enough to come in and show us exactly how bees live and are kept! Here are a few photos of us buzzing about all the action!

Barrowland Ballet FUN!!

What an amazing week with Natasha and Jade from Barrowland Ballet. We learned a dance fusion choreography – mixing Spanish Tango and Urban street dance. We integrated our own poems about Migration; Mostafa spoke in Arabic, Maria M spoke in hungarian, Gurpreet read aloud in Italian and James composed a truly phenomenal Scots language piece all about Glasgow.

Our videos are on the school Twitter – but here’s some snaps to keep you going. If you want to practice or show your parents and family the routine at home, the song is;

D.J. O.G. Style: Return of the tres instrumental

And you thought you were off the hook…

Only kidding P7, these are FUN activities for you to try in the snow.

Mr. Stewart will be updating the school Twitter page with lots of great videos from the wonderful teachers at St Albert’s, giving you ideas on how to spend your day! I posted one about collecting natural flowers and making a beautiful Mother’s Day bouquet. Or, do as I did yesterday, and layer up (you’ve all had plenty of practice of doing this at Lockerbie) and hit the slopes. Queens Park’s pistes are AMAZING.

Here’s a snap of me and my friends yesterday. Can you spot Miss Bull, too?

Or do a spot of painting. My sister and I used some acrylics and stencils to make geometric prints…what do you reckon? Shall I contact the GOMA and ask if they want me to feature at their next exhibition?!

Have a lovely day, and stay safe and warm!

Miss Cohen 🙂

Row, row, row your boat!

Last Thursday, a group of P7s went along to Bellahouston Academy with Mrs Alexander and Mrs Brightman to take part in a Rowathon fundraiser. Chloe Marshall, a S6 pupil, was aiming to raise money for school funds. She’s a Sports Captain there. Here are our crew in action;

Well done Zafirah, Maria A, Furqan, Hafsah and Aisha! You all looked suitably exhausted when you returned to school ha!

Our Glasgow Walking tour…13,000 steps to be exact!!

Yesterday, Primary 7 went to St Mungo’s Museum for a workshop which explored Sectarianism in Glasgow. It was really interesting – and cool to see all of the street names and areas mentioned in our Divided City novel; Castle Street, High Street, the Merchant City, Gallowgate, Tolbooth Steeple, Provand’s Lordship, St. Enoch, Trongate, King William of Orange’s statue in Cathedral Square.

Subhaan happy to stop for a coffee break, instead of being arrested haha!

King William of Orange’s statue Provand’s Lordship – built in 1400s

The activities involved organising different groups in society on a “ladder of responsibility” – to see who we thought had the greatest influence in combatting Sectarianism.

We looked at scarves and posters, which had very EXTREME viewpoints. We realised that religion was being linked to football, when really there was no evidence or history to confirm this connection.

We studied the case story of Mark Scott, a young boy who was killed because he was wearing a football scarf. We discussed if we would call him a “victim”. Muntaha suggested that “Yeah, we would. He is a victim of the way he has been brought up”. I think this realisation is very true. We are all products of traditions, cultures, upbringing and family.

We visited Glasgow Cathedral, and went inside and lit a candle for our special intentions. We also went downstairs in the gothic cathedral to St. Mungo’s tomb.

We had lunch in the Necropolis, Glasgow’s oldest cemetery. We enjoyed spectacular views over the whole city.

Here are the boys marching towards Parkhead, Celtic’s football stadium.

We admired some of the city’s amazing Graffiti as we wandered too. Glasgow is a city of artists!

L-l-l-lots of walking, I was on the sofa for most of the evening. How did you feel after our trip yesterday, P7? Mums and Dads, have you visited any of the places on our maps? What’s your impression on our workshop yesterday?
