A BIG Thank You too our Primary 2 class for spending a very cold morning outside practicing there sums and number bonds. You all did really well and hope you had lots of fun learning and getting fit at the same time.

Summer School Sports

Over the last two weeks of summer St Albert’s run a sports camp for some of our pupils. It was a way of using sport to get our kids fit, active, have fun and get ready for coming back to school.

Over the two weeks we had over 100 kids attend the camp. As part of the camp our pupils received a St Albert’s fitness T-shirt, water bottle and a free lunch.  Our kids got the chance to play different sports from rugby and football to games of kick ball and Jungle run. A Big Thank you to UTD Sports coaching for coming helping out and also being great fun too.

The Journey to the Final Begin

Our St Albert’s Euro journey has begun! The first set of games have been played and We have had some comeback and surprise but a lot of fun along the way!

The P6 Group was the first to get off to a flyer with goals in all the games. No boring nil nil’s in this euro competition.

P7 Group were next and it was the group of the comebacks, 3 teams went from losing positions to comeback and win the game in 3 different games. Excellent work.

P6/7 and Class 2 Group were our last and once again we had lots of goals. A great effort and great performances from this group.

All of our group matches started with a Knee for the fight against racism as our classes have been learning about the No Room For Racism campaign on the lead up to our euros.

Big thank you to all our classes for your great efforts so far and I hope you all had fun!!! Soon we will find out who our winners are and their big prize is they will get to face off in a match against our teachers!!!

St Albert’s Euro’s

Now that we are in the lead up to the Euro 2020 finals, St Albert’s will be taking part in a Euros of their own. Our upper school classes have all been split into 4 teams in each class and  have hand picked a Country for a hat. These will now be their countries that they will learn about and take part as the tournament goes on.

Our Groups are : P6 Group ( Czech republic, Ukraine, Switzerland, Hungary)

P7 Group ( Croatia, Poland, Finland, Denmark)

P6/7 & Class 2 Group ( Germany, Slovakia, Wales, Portugal)

Each Country will have skill sessions prior to the full finals and matches in June for the start of the really Euros competition.

Our Idea for our Euros is to have more children, being more active, more often and also to have lots of fun!

Cricket Scotland

Like to give a big thank you to Cricket Scotland for coming in and working with our Primary 7s. We are lucky enough to have Cricket Scotland in for 8 weeks this term to work on our batting, catching and fielding skills.

Our end goal with Cricket this term is to be able to have a full proper game of cricket set up by our P7s by the end of this term. Our Primary 7s have really enjoyed the first few sessions and we have found some future star batters and fielders in the making too.

Active Schools Orienteering

Our primary 5 & 7s have been luck enough to be taking part in a orienteering session with our great Active Schools Co-ordinator Ivonne today. We at St Albert’s work with Active Schools over various different activities and events over the year so its great to have them back with us today.

Our Class had to find hidden letters that were spaced all around our playgrounds to make the longest word they could thing of. The P5s & 7s came up with some awesome words in some record times after being able to find all 10 letters that Ivonne had hidden around the area.

We all very much enjoyed it and had a lot of fun with Ivonne today. We are very excited to see what she has in store over the next few weeks. Thanks Ivonne.

Hollyrood Netball Heats

This week St Albert’s P6/7s took part in the Glasgow South Netball Heats at Hollyrood Sports Centre ran by active schools. The Netball team was made up of 4 boys and 4 girls who attend the Tuesday after school Netball Club run by Miss O’Donnell. (So if you want to attend the next one make sure you get involved)

The St Albert’s team came away with wins against St Brides and Holycross and narrowly losing to St Convals in the final seconds. After the final round of game we were very proud of how well they had done.

It was a great effort by everyone on the team and great preparation for the Netball fixtures at the end of March.

Our netball team was (Rayan, Lulu, Aliza, Azeem, Safa, Abrihim, Farrah and Zayd) So Well Done representing St Albert’s!!!!

Class 2 Athletics Event

Some of our Class 2 members enjoyed a visit to The Emirates Arena for an athletics event ran by Sport Scotland today. There was a whole load of new events that our class 2 were able to participate in.

We Started with a 200 meter track run showing how fast our class was by having the Fast times of any school.  Which we were all very impressed by!!!

After the 200 meter, We then moved onto more individual events that meant having to use all different muscles groups for lots of throwing, jumping and sprinting. We got to try out and get measured for the Long jump, High Jump, Shot Putt, Discus, Javelin, Hurdles and High Jump. Their favourite events were the Discus and the High Jump, where even Duncan had a go!!!!

It was such great work from Aiyub, Mariam and Huzaifa all afternoon long impressing the Sport Scotland people so much they all ended up with medals after such a great afternoon!!! Well Done!!!!
