Course Choice
It is important to note that recommended entry requirements refer, in the main, to pupils who have continued their studies progressively within that subject. For pupils who have not continued a subject from S4 to S5 or S6 other factors will be taken into consideration. These are:
- Overall attainment levels in other subjects
- Attainment levels in subjects that require a similar skill set
- Attainment levels at the end of S3
- Staff, pupil and parental discussions

S2 Course Personalisation & Choice
In January 2026, our S2 Personal and Social Education programme has a specific focus on Personalisation and Choice to support pupils to make some choices for their S3 courses which will help them to focus their skills and develop their understanding of specific subject areas.
S3 is part of Curriculum for Excellence, Broad General Education so your child will still be studying each of the following curricular areas:
- Expressive arts
- Health and wellbeing
- Languages (including English and Modern Languages)
- Mathematics
- Religious and moral education
- Sciences
- Social studies
- Technologies
During PSE lessons, Principal Teachers of Pupil Support will go over each choice in detail (see presentation below) and will answer any questions that our young people may have.
All S3 pupils will continue their studies in English, Maths and Health and Wellbeing (PE, RME and PSE).
Young people will make further choices at the end of S3 to choose the subjects that they will study for their National Qualifications in S4. Parents/carers will be invited to an information event regarding this usually in January of their S3.
Young people in S2 should complete the glow form (click here) to enter their choices for S3.
All choices should be submitted by Friday 16th January 2026.
Young people can speak to House PT Pupil Support or DHT if they need any help with this.
Options Process
The school will do all it can to give you your first choice of subjects. However, it may not be possible to do so if:
- The demand for a course is too low to make a viable section
- A course is over-subscribed
- You are late in handing in your Subject Choice Form, or if you do not keep the interview appointment with your pastoral care teacher, or any interviews after that
- Your attendance is poor and you are late in enrolling for the course
You can download the school option forms below.
