BGE Project Based Learning
To allow us to offer a more exciting and engaging curriculum, one which better prepares our young people for the rapidly changing world around them and the evolving world of work, we decided to focus on developing meta-skills, meta-cognition and providing our young people with opportunities for Project-Based Learning (PBL).
In session 2024-25, we are piloting 2 Project-Based Learning Quests with our S1 pupils. These 17 week Quests give them the opportunity to embark on tackling big questions related to Health and Wellbeing and Learning for Sustainability. Our first Quests took place from August to December, culminating in a great showcase in December where all of our S1 young people shared their Quest journey with the rest of the year group and staff. This included sharing the journey to their solution including their research, creative processes and final solutions but also allowed them to reflect on their meta-skills journey and share their strengths and areas to work on. Our S1 pupils are now about to embark on their second Quest prior which will take place between January and May.
We have appointed a Principal Teacher of Project-Based Learning, Mr Marcantonio, to support a full review of the S1 Project-Based Learning pilot whilst also laying the foundations to open up similar PBL experiences for our S1 and S2 from August 2025.
Here are some pictures from the S1 showcase in December 2024. This was a great event which we are very proud of our S1 pupils for preparing so fully for.
