Comments Off on World Book Day – Potato People
World Book Day takes place on Thursday the 7th of March 2019. All pupils will be invited to dress up as their favourite character from a book; however this is not compulsory.
This year each child will be given a potato and will be invited to get creative with it and turn it into their favourite book character. In class pupils will be asked to vote for their favourite creation. We will be showcasing our World Book Day Potatoes for the whole school to see on the day so please return all potato creations by Thursday the 7th of March 2019.

Comments Off on WE Day – WE Schools
WE Day is a celebration of young people making a difference in their local and global communities. WE Schools is a year-long programme that nurtures compassion in young people and gives them the tools to create transformational social change. Together they offer young people the tools and the inspiration to take social action, empower others and transform lives—including their own. Our wonderful children have earned their tickets to this year’s WE Day for all of their hard work and dedication within Learning for Sustainability. WE Day takes place on Wednesday the 6th of March 2019 at the SSE Arena in Wembley, London.
We are very much looking forward to this amazing trip and are confident that it will be a memorable experience for everyone attending. Some of our lucky pupils from our Eco Committee will be travelling down to London with their parent/carer and Miss Davidson our Depute Head Teacher and Learning for Sustainability Coordinator to represent our school and Glasgow City Council at this year’s WE Day. Tickets for WE Day cannot be purchased and have to be earned. We are very proud of our school community at Hillington Primary who have worked together to earn these tickets. We will also be live streaming the event in school for our Primary 4-7s’s to see.

Comments Off on RESPECT – Our Approach to Anti-Bullying
At Hillington Primary School our values are achieving, nurturing, healthy and kind. We understand that bullying is never acceptable and that children and young people have the right to learn in a safe, secure environment.
Our Anti-Bullying Policy provide guidance to pupils, staff, parents and carers of Hillington Primary School in relation to preventing, responding to and reducing bullying behaviour.
One of our main functions in school is to equip our pupils for life beyond the classroom. We strive to take pro-active measures designed to increase the self-worth and self-esteem of all our children, enhance their interpersonal skills and help them to cope with life in the wider world to benefit society.

Comments Off on Parental Engagement & Family Learning
At Hillington Primary School we believe that our pupils benefit most from their learning experiences when we work in partnership with parents and carers. Children have two main educators in their lives, their parents and their teachers. The impact of learning is greatest when we work together with shared aims. We want to make our school a welcoming place for parents with an ethos based on mutual trust and respect.
We offer a variety of parental engagement and family learning opportunities at Hillington Primary that can vary from year to year. These include internet safety and anti-bullying workshops, literacy and numeracy workshops, class assemblies and open days, information evenings and child led learning events.
We take into consideration all families within our school community and as such we offer evening opportunties for parents/carers who work during the day whenever we can and can organise translators for parents who dont speak English as their first language.
We have always offered opportunities for parents during school and after school, where possible. Attendance at these sessions varies. We will comtinue to offer evening opportunities for parents wherever possible and aim to give parents as much notice as we can about these events via the school newsletter, text and social media.
We aim to work as a school community to ensure the best possible teaching and learning experiences for all of our pupil. If you have any ideas or suggestions on how we can further develop parental engagement and family learning opportunities at Hillington Primary please contact the school directly or come along to one of our Parent Council meetings highlighted in our newsletters.
